Our one-bedroom in-law apartment is available for short-term or long-term rental in one of the most charming, safest areas of the East Bay, the city of Piedmont. The in-law is in a beautiful old home on its own floor, with a private entrance.  It’s roomy and peaceful, on a quiet street overlooking a large, sunny back garden.  Ideally, we’re looking for tenants who want their own place but are also interested in socializing with us as their upstairs neighbors – perhaps sharing a meal once a week, taking a walk, a game or movie night. We searched for a long time to buy a home that offers an attractive space for a renter so that we can create this kind of “co-housing lite” vision. The space has lovely features:

The neighborhood is extraordinarily beautiful, peaceful and surrounded by large trees. Piedmont has about 11,000 residents within its 1.7 square miles. It’s close to highways, near downtown Oakland and San Francisco to the west, and Concord and Walnut Creek to the east. There are five city parks and numerous landscaped areas which offer wooded paths, tennis courts, children’s playgrounds, and picnic facilities.

Richard and I are 72 and 64, and are mostly retired.  We’re both white, from Irish and Jewish backgrounds.  Richard values kindness and is a calm, gentle presence.  I’ve been told that I’m warm, a good listener, emotionally intelligent, and capable.  I enjoy good conversation, and have been involved in both social justice and personal growth. We are looking for 1-2 compatible people of any age, race, ethnicity and gender who have a sense of vitality, warmth, friends, and common interests.

The rent is $2,775, and the security deposit is the same. Utilities and one-month security deposit are an additional cost. Credit report required, income 2.5 times rent with positive previous rental history. No smoking please. There are some stairs to the entrance (about 1/2 to one flight depending on which entrance you use.)  The apartment can be furnished or not. Well-behaved cats are welcome.
