Attention Seniors-65+: HOUSEMATES WANTED FOR COUNTRY HOME ON 5 WOODED ACRES IN ROCK ISLAND, TN

11-8-2021

I bought a home at the back of a 5 acre lot (about 700 feet from the one lane paved country road the property is on)which also is on a 75 foot “bank” of a small/medium sized creek ( depending upon how much rain fall we get week to week ). There’s around an acre of cleared land at the front of the property, next to the road which is currently overgrown with grass, but has around 10-12 mature blueberry bushes and a few fruit trees. Unfortunately, the people I bought it from didn’t have any idea of what type of trees they are- but believed them to be apples and peaches, so I guess I will find out for sure next year! LOL

The house is a brick ranch with a half story upstairs which has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom and it has a full basement which has a bedroom, kitchen area, laundry area and full bathroom in one half of the basement basement and the other half is unfinished, but has double doors which open out to about 10-14 feet of the bank for the creek. Across the creek and all around the house is wooded and fairly level. There’s a circular driveway in front of the house with a driveway going down to the basement, ( but it needs gravel put on it) and another driveway- again needing gravel on it- going north/ northeast of the house to a 3 bay pole barn/carport.

The first floor has a living room, kitchen-dining room area, a master bedroom ( mine) with a full bath, a smaller bedroom (9.5’x10.5’), a large second bathroom/ laundry room combination, a 6’x42’ covered front porch ( There’s a metal roof on the house) and a 10.5’x21’ screened back porch off the kitchen/dining room area which overlooks the creek- there’s even a small waterfall on the south side!

There’s lots of wildlife here- I’ve had rabbits, deer and wild turkeys so far, but the previous owners said the river otters come to the creek in the spring time.

Anyways, to make a long story short- my late husband and I closed on this house 7/6/2021 and finished moving everything into it on 7/30/21- not yet completely unpacked, but I am working on that!

Unfortunately, on 8/11/21, he committed suicide, so I am trying to regroup and start a new life for myself.

Since I had a “Golden Girls “ home with two roommates for 5-6 years in my late 50’s and until I was 65 and remarried in 6/2020, I believe that that’s going to be part of my new lifestyle. I am an RN with 43 years experience in critical care, home health and , most recently, hospice ( I am a certified hospice and palliative care nurse currently and was a Navy Hospital Corpsman 1972-75).

I am currently interviewing for a nursing position and will be restarting my Nurse Practitioner program in the spring ( I have 2 years to go for this online program).

I love gardening and nature, especially natural healing methodology and was a Licensed Massage Therapist in my 20’s and owned a small herbal shop, greenhouse and nursery in my late 30’s and early 40’s ( which is something that I would like to get back into in the future).

The house is in Rock Island, TN, but is about 7 miles NW of this “town”- it’s a crossroads with a few stores and a really great state park (Rock Island State Park).

Rent for sharing the house would be $800 per month for the larger upstairs bedroom or $950 per month for the basement bedroom/kitchen/ laundry area/ bathroom ( there has to be a pump put it this bathroom to pump the water up to the septic tank , so it will not be available for a while- 3-4 months). If you’re more interested in a smaller bedroom, the smaller bedroom on the first floor and the smaller bedroom upstairs would be $700 per month.

I plan to have between 2 & 3 housemates at this time. I will be finishing off the one half of the basement which is currently unfinished over the next year. This would accommodate another 1-2 housemates, with my goal being establishing a shared housing establishment for seniors ages 65+ who are able to live and function completely independently and who wish to live in a caring, cooperative manner in a  shared housing establishment in a very rural environment.

All utilities are included except for your personal home phone and TV service in your room. You may also have to get your own internet service as we do not have 5 G availability yet- it’s supposed to be installed next year, but a time-frame has not been established. There is a great spring fed well here for water.
