Ocate, New Mexico USA

We are an intentional community living in rural northeastern New
Mexico on a beautiful 37,000 acre biodiverse ranch/farm. We are
looking for several dynamic couples (and possibly individuals) who are
wanting to become long term members of our highly functioning
community.
We are extremely fortunate to have this amazing property to live and
work on. Having facilities, farming equipment and building materials,
which help to make our work productive and our down time
comfortable. We even have a few established businesses and potential
cottage industries on the ranch that are able to support our community’s
growth and livelihood.
Far and away our greatest resource is our community members
themselves – creative, highly skilled, enthusiastic, openhearted and
grounded. A true joy to both work and play with. If you share these
attributes and are looking for a community such as ours, please read on.
These are the areas needing to be filled and skills we are looking for:
1) Guest Lodge Operations.
(Keep in mind, we work as a team and are ready to help with all areas of activity.
We also take on capable and enthusiastic seasonal volunteers wanting to learn and
help where needed.)
We have high quality lodging capable of providing year round services
to a variety of guest. Currently our main source of business is generated
from the Ranch’s Hunting Operations. During hunting season (elk, deer,
turkey) main duties include; cooking meals, serving guests (size of
groups vary), kitchen clean up, maintaining organization of food and
supplies/inventory (reordering and possibly grocery shopping),
maintaining the hot tub, hotel standard housekeeping on 8 guest rooms
and common areas, managing staff if/when extra help is needed.

Customer service is of the utmost importance! You will be the first
impression our guests have upon arrival which is why it is important that
you be professional, kind and have the understanding and knowledge
base of great customer service. Guest check in, orientation, answering
questions and accommodating guest needs are all part of this position.
Having computer/internet skills is important, as you would be directly
involved in communications with guests prior to arrival, guest reviews,
website updates and the social media associated with the business.
During the off season and when the lodge is vacant, general community
duties include but are not limited to; maintenance of buildings and
grounds, helping with landscaping/gardening, sharing cooking and clean up for community meals, participating in other community activities and
projects.
Our perfect candidates would possess a natural attention to detail, the
ability to run the lodge efficiently, effectively and with enthusiasm, can
be proactive and think ahead, be a positive, energetic, customer service
oriented couple with a high standard and with attention to detail.
2) Building
We are constantly improving our facilities as well as building more
accommodations and structures needed to house our people and our
projects. Conventional and alternative building are both encouraged. We
incorporate adobe, stick frame, log, rammed earth, stucco, natural wood
siding, passive and active solar with under floor heating, interior free
form plaster as well as creative design and building techniques. We are
enthusiastic about learning and implementing these and other techniques
such as cob, straw bale, earth ship, timber frame, SIPs, ICFs, Radiant
Wall Systems, etc…
Ideally, you would posses skill in many of these areas and an ability to
learn and implement these and others.

3) Farming and Ranching
Farming – needs begin with the establishment of gardens and a few
farm animals capable of supporting our community and guests. From
there, production to share with community and local farmers markets to
raise income for the community.
Ranching – this land has been part of a working ranch for over 150
years. We run yearlings and cow/calf. Even though we manage our
grazing program to augment and improve our wildlife, the cattle
program has a lot of room to grow and change. Our fields were certified
organic at one time and nothing has been done that would interfere with
future certification. Free range grass fed beef with local direct
marketing is also an area for growth.
Having the experience to manage and grow this business is a must.
Taking care of facilities, fencing, pastures, as well as the cattle are
included in this position.
4) Education
We would like to grow an experiential education program.
Creating, marketing, and coordinating programs that include both
volunteers as well as annual retreats to paying customers. You would be
making use of onsite knowledge and instruction as well as hiring experts
in the field of permaculture, alternative building, gardening, etc. to teach
both participants and community members in a defined program
environment.
More about us: We are a group of people who have come together with
the intention of creating a sustainable stewardship with this land and our

environment as a whole. We are passionate about homesteading and our
goals include – growing and raising our own food, reducing our impact
by “making our own”, maintaining what we have and keeping things in
good working order, creating sustainable housing, energy usage and
consumption and being mindful of our practices for future generations.
We participate in mindful based practices and offer yoga classes,
meditation, Reiki treatments and training/certification, guided
visualization, nature hikes and group intention setting. We practice
open/conscious communication and hold one another accountable for
self growth and raising our collective vibration. We aren’t full on
granola heads but we don’t participate in health damaging practices such
as abuse of – tobacco, alcohol, drugs, subscribing to the mainstream, or
dwelling in blame, complaint or a victim mentality. We value a
peaceful, loving, relaxed and natural way of being in our environment
and in community.
The perfect candidates are folks who desire to be actively involved in
our community long term & who have the fortitude and tenacity to stick
with it through challenging times. We are located in a remote setting an
hour from Las Vegas New Mexico, an hour and a half from Taos, and
two hours from Santa Fe. So you must be comfortable living in a rural
and natural setting.
Compensation includes room and board, internet access, utilities and
water, access to community spaces and amenities and some monetary
compensation TBD and discussed with the right applicants.
