We’ll also explore good responses to these challenges. \n \nWhat you’ll gain from this session:\n\nInsights into how to unpack and frame complex topics (Hint: ignoring them doesn’t work)\nInsights about the primacy of working at the energetic level when that’s a known element\nUnderstanding better how the boundary between private and public shifts in a community setting\nGreater appreciation for the social skills needed to address issues well and make community thrive\nWhether you think Laird knows what he’s doing and is someone you could learn from!\n\nThis is a one-hour teaser for an upcoming 5-week course\, Consensus 201 for Cooperative Groups. SUMMARY:7 Membership Questions All Cooperative Groups Need to Address [Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:Dec 16 | 1-2pm Eastern \n7 Membership Questions All Cooperative Groups Need to Address\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Laird Schaub for a webinar unpacking the essential questions about membership in an intentional community — who\, how\, when\, and why people join your group. \n\nWhile most cooperative groups do not discuss all these questions or even any of them\, all groups should. The important thing to keep in mind is not so much what is the right answer — there are many of them — as it is to avoid the price of ambiguity down the line. \n \nGet clear on the membership questions your community should be asking now in this short\, FREE webinar. Ultimately\, it’s far cheaper to wrestle with these questions before you’re in trouble than to attempt to establish guidelines once you’re in the soup. \n \n If your group already has agreements or at least a working understanding about how you want to handle these basic areas\, great! If you haven’t gone there yet\, you’ll be returning with homework from this session. \n \nSo\, here’s what we’ll address: \n \n\nWhat is it exactly that members are joining? \nWhat are the rights & responsibilities of a member?\nWhat are the rules of engagement?\nWhat is expected level of engagement of a member?\nHow do members want to recieve feedback?\nHow will conflict be resolved?\nWhat are the exit paths for members?\n\n\nKey outcomes of this webinar:\n\nA deeper understanding of what it means to be a member of cooperative groups\nWhat membership questions groups should anticipate discussing\nHow to be a savvy shopper when considering whether to join a cooperative group\n\nThis is a one-hour teaser for an upcoming 5-week course\, Designing a Community Membership Process. This immersive program will include a comprehensive mandate for the membership team and why it’s work is never done\, how to screen prospectives for a good fit\, what it takes to effectively orient and integrate new members\, and much more. \n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Facilitator\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaird Schaub \nLaird’s specialty is up-tempo inclusive meetings that engage the full range of human input\, teaching groups to work creatively with conflict and diversity—all the while being ruthless about capturing as much product as possible. SUMMARY:Recognizing and Reducing Implicit Bias [Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:December 3rd | 3-4:30pm Eastern \nRecognizing and Reducing Implicit Bias \n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin “The Diversity Doctor”\, Stacie Walton MD for an overview of the neuroscience of bias and practical ways that you can recognize and reduce your unconscious bias.\n\n\nOur brains are wired for survival\, and we are wired to fear our differences. These processes primarily live in the vast unconscious processes of our brain. \n \nSo\, it is not surprising that we tend to have biases\, prejudices\, and stereotypes that are processed in the brain in split seconds. We make snap judgments about other people and groups of people which directly impacts the quality of our thoughts and the nature of our behaviors. \n \nBut the fact that some of our biases are unconscious does not mean that we are off the hook. When we are not aware of the power of our unconscious or implicit biases to make these snap judgments\, we are at the mercy of beliefs we are not cognizant of and are blind to. This results in behavior and decisions that perpetuate systems and structures of inequality\, disenfranchisement\, and violence that we’re ultimately responsible for. \n \nBy waking up to our implicit biases\, we can take ownership of them and consciously decide how we want to be in the world and the communities we want to co-create. In Stacie Watson’s upcoming 90-minute webinar\, you’ll learn some steps to take to do just that. \n\nDuring this session you will learn:\n\nRelevant terms related to implicit bias\nBasic brain structures and processes that influence implicit bias\nHow to recognize and reduce implicit bias\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStacie Walton\, MD\nStacie Walton MD\, MPH\, diversity champion and communication consultant\, co-facilitates a Racial Healing Circle in Sacramento\, California. SUMMARY:Same Storm\, Different Boats: Examining Class and Classism in Community [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:December 2nd | 12:00-2:00pm Eastern \nSame Storm\, Different Boats: Exploring Class & Classism in Community\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin author and community founder Yana Ludwig for an interactive workshop to explore class dynamics and how we can build equitable\, resilient communities.\n\nA poem circulated during the COVID era that you may have seen challenged the assumption that we were all in the same boat. Instead\, we are all in the same pandemic storm but very different boats due to our differing backgrounds\, resrources\, and privilege. \n \nSimilarly\, while we all might arrive on a common shore when we reach a given community\, we each arrive by very different means that have been influenced by many factors\, including divergent class backgrounds. \n \nClass dynamics are as sticky and historically challenging as race and gender dynamics\, but there are fewer resources out there for individuals and groups who want to work on them. And economic relationships and systems can be one of the toughest nuts for communities to crack. \n \nThis workshop offers a non-judgmental environment to explore questions of economics and class and how they related to our efforts to build community and a sustainable\, resilient world. \n\nKey outcomes of this workshop:\n\nWhat classism actually is\nExamples of how classism shows up in communities\nA basic framework for understanding privilege\nGuidance for ways to make community more affordable and equitable\nHow to work with privelege and power in community\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYana Ludwig\nYana has 25 years of cooperative living experience\, including four community start-ups. SUMMARY:Safety\, Sexuality\, and Navigating Violations in Community [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:October 12th | 6:00-8:00pm Eastern \nSafety\, Sexuality\, and Navigating Violations in Community\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this 2-hour workshop to explore common misconceptions around sexual assault that are particularly impactful for intentional communities and learn communication tools to support people in being assertive\, courageous\, and vulnerable.\n\n\nWe all want to feel safe and held in our communities\, particularly with the parts of us that are most vulnerable. Our sexuality holds exquisite beauty and deep wounding. In this workshop we will explore safety in community\, particularly as it relates to our sexuality\, and learn communication tools to support being courageous in our relating. \n \nNavigating sexual violations in community is rarely simple\, easy\, or a quick process. Without shared definitions of sexual assault\, clear community agreements\, processes around accountability\, and collective understanding of consent practices get messy quick. The murky reality of assumptions\, coercion\, manipulation\, and at times violence\, compound the challenges confronting a community when violations of consent and sexual assault occur. \n \nFacilitated and taught by Amanda Rain of Speaking the Unspeakable®. She engages the unspeakable within and between us with heartfelt empathy and fierce compassion. The integrity of the space we co-create together is the foundation of our ability to feel supported in being courageous in our vulnerability\, open in our hearts\, and curious with our minds as we participate in conversation with each other and learn new tools to support our processes.. \n \nWhat this will not be: a detailed deep dive into community agreements or accountability processes\, everything you need or should know as a community dealing with sexual assault\, or a full workshop on consent. What this workshop will be: an opportunity to learn tools that can be applied to each of these efforts in ways that best serves your community. \n \n\nDuring this session you will:\n\nLearn myths and facts of sexual assault\nHear from past experience navigating sexual assault in community\nLearn simple\, yet powerful\, communication tools\nPractice building the muscle of empathy\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmanda Rain\nAmanda founded Speaking the Unspeakable® to inspire the courage to meet our challenges and empower our lives through effective communication. A mix of passion\, training\, and real-world experience has given Amanda a unique perspective on how communication can be utilized to support our general self-growth and evolution\, while facilitating our ability to have a greater impact on our world. The study of rhetoric first captured her attention while debating the college circuit form 200-2-2004. She learned that communication can be both effective and powerful with the right combination of simplicity\, skill\, and strategy. \nAmanda distills what is complex and challenging into clear understanding. She supports people in getting to the heart of what’s important and how to effectively move forward. Amanda has worked on sensitive issues such as consent culture within sexuality and intimacy\, sexual assault and trauma\, and diversity\, equity and inclusion. Her analysis of our shared experience in these areas is dynamic\, nuanced\, and insightful. \nAmanda inspires the willingness to face our challenges\, while confronting them with skill. Her voice offers hope for the spirit and medicine for the soul. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Online Event Experience\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nLive Zoom Sessions\nNothing pre-recorded here!
