Communities Presenting in October
Ecovillage at Ithaca
Located in the beautiful region of New York’s Finger Lakes, EcoVillage at Ithaca has three thriving cohousing neighborhoods. The village features cooperative dining in the common houses, a swimming pond, neighborhood community gardens, hiking trails, play spaces, 85 energy efficient homes, a common house with 15 apartments, all in a multigenerational village-scale community. The pedestrian village is surrounded by woods and open meadows.
Walnut St Cooperative
Walnut Street Co-op is a social change oriented cooperative household in Eugene, Oregon. In September 2000 we moved into a large, rambling house together, seeking to build community. Three years later we formed a legal co-op, funding the project with many small loans from like-minded individuals. As housemates, we eat dinner together, share chores, attend house meetings and work parties, and have a basic commitment to resolve conflicts. We trust that each person holds a piece of the truth, and we are committed to deep listening with each other.
La Cité Écologique
Cité Écologique is an ecovillage located in Ham-Nord in the region of Quebec, Canada where residents give priority to education, sustainable development and respect. We offer an alternative lifestyle where businesses, community and sustainability are intertwined. The community began in 1984 as an alternative school based on “respect for nature.” Now, 100 members live here on a permanent basis. Visitors and interns are welcome to join our visitor’s program during summer time.
Meet Your Host
Cynthia Tina
Cynthia Tina is the “community matchmaker” and founder of CommunityFinders, offering programs to help people join and start intentional communities. She’s also the founder of Ecovillage Tours, bringing people on inspirational journeys to sustainable communities. She has visited more than 150 intentional communities around the world, including the Vermont ecovillage where she lives in her self-built passive solar home.
Formerly the co-director, Cynthia is now a spokesperson and educator with the Foundation for Intentional Community. She’s a former trustee of the Global Ecovillage Network and former director of the youth ecovillage network, NextGEN North America. She holds a degree in Sustainability from Goddard College, as well as certificates in Permaculture and Ecovillage Design, and Yoga Teacher Training.
