We are a small group of friends and artists sharing and restoring a historic Victorian townhouse in NYC. Abundant shared common space such as a large art studio, yoga room, large eat-in kitchen, 200 sq ft terrace, dining room that seats 12, backyard patio, garden, massage room, lounge and chill space. 

We live as an “intentional community light”, meaning that we’re not just random housemates but we’re also not a full intentional community. We aim for the benefits of living in community without a lot of the rules, requirements or ideology of some other communities. We try to follow a basic philosophy of “pleasurable group living.” We have monthly house meetings to connect, plan, and make sure everyone’s needs are met. Every six weeks or so, we cook and share a meal together along with invited guests. We also run a small charity that collects and redistributes food.

We are an intergenerational household. The three of us are over 50 and we’ve lived here with people as young as 25 for over 8 years.  Now that the pandemic is behind us, we’re growing our community again. Yay!

Suzanne and Matt own the house, Patricia has lived with us for 5 years. We like to cook and host dinner parties, create art, and have fun! Patricia is a painter, creative coach, and massage therapist. Suzanne is a couples therapist and gardener. Matt is a game designer and entrepreneur.

We’re looking for housemates (singles or a couple) who are over 25, interested in more than just a room, and are up for some participation in maintaining and restoring  the house. Creative types, massage therapists/yoga practitioners preferred. Experience living in a group is a big plus.

Location description:

Located in a densely populated, up-and-coming residential neighborhood,  just one subway stop away from Manhattan in the South Bronx. 

• 8 minute walk to Express D and 4 trains at 161st street Yankee stadium subway station. (15 minute ride to midtown, or 7 minute ride to Harlem)
• 5 minute walk to big grocery market
• 15 minute walk to Bronx Terminal Market Mall (Target, Home Depot, etc.)
• 10 minute walk to Yankee Stadium; sports bars, tacos, diner, fast food. (No cool cafes, but Harlem is only one stop away.)

Requirements:

$950 per person (includes heat/hot water, FiOS Wifi, washer/dryer)

One month security deposit

Proof of income and references required. We interview all prospective housemates in advance of visiting the space (in person or via zoom.)
