Freedom Village at SkyStone Vale is building a cooperative, land-based community in Saguache County, Colorado. We focus on tiny homes, RV living, off-grid systems, DIY builds, and community-driven resilience. We welcome people ready to be new residents, volunteers, and supporters who want to help shape a safe, BIPOC and Disabled inclusive, regenerative, and future-ready village.
This location offers ¼-acre to 2-acre land-use ownership rights for tiny homes, RVs, vans, and small cabins. Residents can add their own solar, water systems, gardens, and other improvements. The land is flat, open, quiet, and surrounded by mountain views. It’s ideal for people seeking nature, space, and a cooperative community without the pressure of traditional HOAs or high-cost housing models.
While zoning is underway, camping is available six minutes down the road for anyone transitioning, visiting, or preparing to relocate at our “Outpost” farm stay location for 500/mo boondocking with bathroom/kitchen/laundry access. Cheaper than anywhere in the area by half.
Our mission is to create a long-term, non-dogmatic sanctuary network through our nonprofit and cooperative partners. This includes multiple sites across Saguache, Rio Grande, and Costilla counties, with Freedom Village in Moffat as one of the anchor locations.
Who we’re looking for:
People who want to help build something real—people who value cooperation, communication, peaceful living, sustainability, and shared responsibility. Homesteaders, tiny home owners, RV residents, gardeners, builders, makers, volunteers, families, and individuals looking for a stable place to grow and contribute are all welcome.
What it’s like here:
The land is peaceful and rural, with incredible sunsets, dark skies, and clear views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Cell service is good, and the roads are accessible. Off-grid systems are allowed and supported. DIY homes are legal with zoning approval. This is an evolving community with a mix of new residents, volunteers, and long-term stewards working together to build an intentional village over time.
Land pricing is among the most cost-effective in the state, with options starting around $6,000, including access to water and septic.
