Housekeeping Manager Position
Position Starts April 1
We are a holistic retreat center and intentional community in Hawaii focused on ecological living and personal growth/development in a residential community context. Staff and volunteers form the backbone of the community providing labor in core areas such as Housekeeping, Hospitality, Land and Garden work, Food prep and catering for retreats and more. Our core values and agreements are: Self-Responsibility, Clear communication, Sex/Body/Pleasure positive & LGBTQKP+ supportive environment, Sobriety, Ecology, and more. The center is located within a larger off-grid eco-village neighborhood with other privately-owned lots/homes. We are located walking distance from the ocean and have a gorgeous year-round climate, tons of fruit trees and great infrastructure to support community living.
Overview of job

Work Hours, Term Commitment, Responsibilities, and Meetings
- Work 30 hours per week
- Provide labor with a focus on Housekeeping, while also being available to provide labor in core areas such as Hospitality, Land and Garden work, Food prep and catering for retreats, and Construction.
- Attend daily Staff Meetings M-F, weekly community meetings, and other meetings as needed
Primary Work Responsibilities
- Keep Laundry Lanai and Cleaning Supply Closet clean and organized
- Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry
- Treat linens for stains
- Keep linens organized
- Clean and prepare bedrooms for incoming guests
- Teach newer staff members/volunteers how to flip rooms and provide feedback to them on how well they do it.
- Regularly clean common areas such as Bath House, Dining Lanai, and Serving Lanai.
Two Week Trial Period
- There will be a two week trial period for this position. At the end of two weeks, the Volunteer Coordinator and you will see if there is mutual agreement for you to stay on as the Housekeeping Manager.
- If you continue on as the Housekeeping Manager, there is a 6 month commitment.
- There is no payment during this two week trial period.
- There will be a check in at the end of the first and second weeks where you will be given feedback and have the opportunity to give us feedback.

- Our intention is to provide a private space in a tent, or a room when available.
Food plan
- Community Food Plan: Well stocked kitchen for self serve breakfast and lunch, and we typically have prepared dinners M-Sa.
- Space for personal dry goods storage

- Co-working space with internet, desks, and chairs
- Clothing optional environment with sun bathing loungers.
- Use of the Yoga/Dance/Meditation Spaces, Pineapple lounge.
- Use of Washer and clotheslines
Payment
- If you continue as the Housekeeping Manager after your two week trial period, you will receive a monthly stipend.
Community Agreements at Hawaii Eco Retreat
- Personal Self-Responsibility. Take responsibility for your choice to be here, for your words and actions. Ask for a pause, a stop and state boundaries where necessary.
- Integrity in agreements. Honestly do the work you have agreed to do. Acknowledge where you have broken or disagree with agreements.
- Empowered direct communication and ask for mediation if necessary. Make clear requests. No Gossip or Collusion.
- Sobriety on site. No smoking on site. No use or distribution of illegal drugs or alcohol on site. Transparent communication if one has a medical marijuana permit or are using substances that affect consciousness.
- Pursue personal self-development and respect other’s individual paths. Reflect on yourself rather than blaming others.
- Ecological awareness: Conserve Water, Electricity, Soil, Food, Recycle.
- Clothing Optional Environment (Bottoms must be worn in kitchen and dining lanai). Nudity is not a sexual invitation.
- Sex-Positive. Support all in consensual sexuality for 18+ adults. Take responsibility for your sexual choices and affirm your agency in making choices. Acceptance of all gender and non-gender expressions, sexual orientations, as well as all relationship forms and styles.
- Non-Violence. No threats, intimidation or non-consensual touch. Do emotional release work in a consensual manner at appropriate times and places.
- Support a sense of humor and playfulness while being sensitive to others.
