Austin, Texas

A lovely room with two southeastern facing windows and a double closet is available March 1, 2024 in our shared, 3-bedroom, 2-bath home – Mountain Laurel House – on a beautiful green space in central East Austin. $925 a month, all bills paid.

Our peaceful and supportive, cross-generational community of two humans, Riley (25, he/him/they) and Donna (61, she/her), plus two cats, twin brothers Clematis and Leo (3 in July) are looking for our third.

We’re located close to downtown Austin, the state Capitol, UT, and HT with lots of options for great healthy food nearby, a seven-minute bike ride to Town Lake aka Lady Bird Lake with its hike and bike trails and kayaking. Beautiful Barton Springs is not far away.

Amenities include a utility room with a clothes washer-dryer and an optional clothesline, high-speed internet, large yard on a park-like, green cul-de-sac.

Artists, gardeners, social and environmental justice activists or professionals, people of color, LGBTQ folks, vegetarians, and vegans are especially welcome and encouraged.

Folks with cooperative living experience or willingness to try something new will be a great fit. We create an affirming balance of positive communication, mutual support, and respect for quiet time and personal space.

We’re almost 100% substance-free here.  At this time, we’re only open to one other person and no pets or children. We do enjoy occasionally interacting with our two neighbors’ children in the front yard and sometimes in the house.

Interested? Email donnaleehoffman@gmail.com and reply to some application questions we’ll send you. Thank you!  Donna

PS  There is a small piece of land available for purchase or land-lease next to the house. Interested intentional community builders can also contact us about that to discuss the possibilities.

Intentional Values and Practices

We check in with each other pretty regularly about Wellness — Body, Mind, and Spirit; Relationships – Family and Friends; Maintaining Beauty and Order in the shared space.

We actively practice true love — loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and inclusivity.

We take care of the planet by reducing consumption and waste, reusing, and recycling. We use free and clear products, ie scent-free in the common areas. We nurture and enjoy the plants, trees, and wildlife. We maintain a wildlife habitat by planting native plants that offer food sources and by providing dishes of water outside.

This is a great place for ORGANIC GARDENING – there’s plenty of space and already an active ongoing composting and vegetable production practice. Plus there are two rain tanks with 6,000 gallons total of rain water.  There’s space here for another to feel free to do their own beds and/or collaborate. You can also join our community garden at Blackshear Neighborhood garden a short walk away.

This is also a great community for Social and Environmental Justice activists.  We both participate in the anti-war and social justice movements.

We look forward to hearing from you!
