We are a vibrant, multi-generational rural community creating a life together on 135 acres on the traditional hilly lands of the Stockbridge-Mohican People. We live on about 15 acres clustered by the dirt road, beyond which we have meadows and about 80 acres under a forest management plan. We are looking for those who are excited about being engaged in conscious culture creation with others and have the energy necessary for country living.
We have a home for sale and a building spot for a new home. We also have periodic rental availability in one or both of our common house bedrooms for those who want to experience living in community for a short-term residency. We are not able to provide housing in return for labor. The common house is a pet-free building, excepting creatures enclosed at all times in a cage or tank.
Currently there are 11 households consisting of 17 adults and 8 children in homes around the common house. Our main community house, the common house is a timber frame 2-story home with a large kitchen, several common living spaces, a basement, one of 2 shared laundry spaces, and two bedrooms.
We are within 20-40 minutes of urban centers: Hudson, Troy/Albany in New York and Pittsfield / Berkshires MA. We are 3 hours west of Boston and north of New York City. Owning and using a car (preferably electric) is advisable given our rural location.
We use our Intentions Statement to guide our life together as a community. We use Quaker decision-making processes for carrying out community business.
Before reaching out, please read our directory listing and website.
Directory listing can be viewed here: https://www.ic.org/directory/qivc/ and our website www.qivc.org.
If you are interested in learning more, please contact us at info@qivc.org.
Please introduce yourself when you contact us. A paragraph or two would be lovely. Things you could address in your message: why you are interested, what you do with your time (hobbies, work, etc), interests, and what you think you might be able to bring to this community. And please, feel free to ask any questions you might have.
If it seems you might be a good fit, we will reach out to discuss next steps which likely include one or more of the following: zoom calls, visit(s), increasing participation in the community and ultimately living near or with us for up to a year or so to discern whether full membership is the right way forward for you and for our community.
