The village features cooperative dining in the common houses\, a swimming pond\, neighborhood community gardens\, hiking trails\, play spaces\, 85 energy efficient homes\, a common house with 15 apartments\, all in a multigenerational village-scale community. In September 2000 we moved into a large\, rambling house together\, seeking to build community. Three years later we formed a legal co-op\, funding the project with many small loans from like-minded individuals. As housemates\, we eat dinner together\, share chores\, attend house meetings and work parties\, and have a basic commitment to resolve conflicts. We offer an alternative lifestyle where businesses\, community and sustainability are intertwined. The community began in 1984 as an alternative school based on “respect for nature.” Now\, 100 members live here on a permanent basis. She’s also the founder of Ecovillage Tours\, bringing people on inspirational journeys to sustainable communities. She has visited more than 150 intentional communities around the world\, including the Vermont ecovillage where she lives in her self-built passive solar home.  \n\n\n\nFormerly the co-director\, Cynthia is now a spokesperson and educator with the Foundation for Intentional Community. She’s a former trustee of the Global Ecovillage Network and former director of the youth ecovillage network\, NextGEN North America.
