From Me to We end of year fundraiser

Building a Bridge to a Better Future

Belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It is built.
We are creating the spaces where connection and care take root.

For decades, the Foundation for Intentional Community has helped people build intentional communities and find one another.

Today, we are launching into the future with innovative ways to serve the movement making belonging, connecting and network building stronger and simpler. Now more than ever, we must shift from a culture of individualism to one rooted in collective action, cooperation, and community.

We can’t do this work alone. By donating to FIC, you are supporting the leading organization that ensures community, cooperation, and liberation are at the frontlines of a new future.

Together, we’re building the foundation for a future rooted in
cooperation and community. Donate today.

Your Stories Are Our Stories

The FIC is the entity that carries the mantel. It reminds me I belong to an alive network of mutual aid, a movement, and a tradition. And through events like the Convergence of Intentional Communities, more and more people young and old see themselves as making up this movement—even as we make up many other movements to which we weave ourselves. The FIC has shown to me a real commitment to understanding what intentional communities mean to people, not just through their plentiful courses & workshops, but also through my specialty as an academic researcher.

The IC.org directory database is an immeasurably valuable resource. It is a connection to education, to other ways of living, and to other communities. After years living in and out of different communities, I’ve learned what I want (and don’t want) toward what I am helping to build today. Almost 15 years later, I now employ the FIC as a resource in a different way – as guidance in creating our own community in the network.

Four years ago my partner and I were living an isolated life raising our kids in the suburbs and we felt like we really wanted a village to raise our kids with. We immediately posted on the FIC directory that we were trying to [create a] community in Minnesota. Within a couple of weeks we got a hit from a family in Illinois who connected with us. We launched right into meeting every couple of weeks online and going through a whole visioning process that really informed the [decisions] for what is our community today. We are really grateful that the directory let us make that connection.

A few decades ago, my mom found a rural community in Ohio by searching the FIC directory book. It was there that she met my dad and eventually they had me. In my adulthood I have continued living or staying involved in the cooperative housing movement, thanks to the community-oriented upbringing I had. If my mom hadn’t used FIC’s invaluable resource of the directory, she wouldn’t have met my dad. I’m sure I’m not the only one who can say I literally owe my life to the FIC!
