SUMMARY:Learning from Conflict with Restorative Systems [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:May 18th | 2:00-4:00pm Eastern \nLearning from Conflict with Restorative Systems\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a 2-hour workshop to find out how to design a system that will support dialogue in your group\, especially when tensions are high.\n\nWhen conflict blossoms nearby\, it often looks more like a bomb than a bloom. But with enough support we can get close enough to take the danger out of conflict\, and even to see its hidden potential to bring about what we want most. Conflict points to unmet needs\, in ourselves and in our communities. In restorative systems\, we focus on meeting those needs\, discovering where harm has been done\, repairing what can be repaired\, and rebuilding connection. The systems we design together are like homes within which conflict can live among us safely — and maybe even help us thrive. \n\nKey outcomes of this workshop:\n\nIdentify a dialogical system and learn how to spot one in the wild\nKnow the three questions to ask as you design your own conflict system\nFind out how your existing conflict system can work even better\nDiscover the five preconditions for a strong restorative system\nConsider how to get the support you need to engage with conflict\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlyson Ewald \nAlyson works with individuals and groups to design systems and practices that facilitate learning\, connection\, creative conflict engagement\, and collaborative decision making. SUMMARY:A Compassionate Approach to Conflict [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:May 5th | 5-7pm Eastern \nA Compassionate Approach to Conflict — NVC Training\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Jenna Card for a two-hour virtual workshop to learn how to work through conflict using Nonviolent Communication. \n \n\nWe’ll develop skills to gracefully and powerfully navigate challenging situations\, which is essential for one’s well-being\, healthy relationships\, and healthy communities. \n \nNonviolent Communication (NVC) asserts that our every action is an attempt to satisfy\, consciously or unconsciously\, an important internal value or need. When we move beyond judging and blaming to see a shared humanity underneath the offending actions or words\, we can begin to transform conflict with compassion. \n \n\n \nBased on the principles and consciousness of NVC\, plus illuminating brain science and practical exercises\, together we will explore bringing a deeper understanding of conflict and how to bring a more compassionate\, life-serving approach to addressing conflict. \n\nKey outcomes of this workshop:\n\nBetter understand conflict in your life\nUnpack your habitual ways of responding\nLearn strategies for maintaining our “cool” when things get tense\nExplore skills for responding to conflict with more grace & efficacy\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Facilitator\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJenna Card \nJenna is a Certified Compassionate Communication (NVC) Trainer and excels at facilitating heart centered connection. In 2016 she became the Executive Director for the nonprofit there\, which shares Dancing Rabbit’s unique flavor of hope and sustainable living inspiration with the world.  She delights in living in a 213 sq ft naturally built round house called the Hermitage. She originally hails from the state of Colorado\, and her skills are as diverse and varied as the places she’s lived since then (hypnotherapy\, breathwork\, facilitation\, marketing\, spreadsheets). Her degree in Peace & Global Studies informs her vision of how ecovillages are part of a global movement towards curing the social pandemic of loneliness and meaninglessness\, and creating a better world for everyone. She passionately cultivates the world she wants to pass on to future generations\, and living in community (amidst all of the highs & lows) is an integral part of that cultivation. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid (Cob) Carleton\nOver time Cob has served in many administrative and other committee roles at Dancing Rabbit\, as the administrator for the Land Trust\, on the executive committee of our municipal cooperative\, as a manger of the shared vehicle fleet\, and a term on the Village Council. Cob is currently also on the Board of the local Milkweed Mercantile Cooperative\, where he cooks\, tends bar\, and manages the bookkeeping. He also runs a small local (nearly zero waste) grocery store at Dancing Rabbit. \nCob particularly enjoy working with visitors and new residents to explain how our different legal organizations and governing documents mesh with one another\, the flow of group finances and budgets\, and to help new folks accurately assess their cost of living when they move to the ecovillage. He often leads workshops during visitor programs\, and enjoys cooking for large groups and generally talking about the joys and challenges of living in community. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Online Event Experience\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nLive Zoom Sessions\nNothing pre-recorded here! SUMMARY:Interview with Robin Allison\, Author of Cohousing for Life
DESCRIPTION:April 21 | 4-5pm Eastern \nInterview with Robin Allison\, Author of Cohousing for Life\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an interview with Robin Allison including live audience Q&A! \n\nIn FIC Co-Director\, Cynthia Tina\, will meet with Robin Allison for an hour-long session to learn about her new book Cohousing for Life. Get your copy of the e-book or paperback! \n \n\nAbout Robin\n \nRobin trained as an architect at the University of Auckland in the early 1980s\, and ran her own sustainable architecture practice for a number of years before founding Earthsong Eco-Neighborhoud in 1995. Her workshops and seminars on cohousing have been a catalyst for groups all over New Zealand to start working on their own projects. \nEarthsong was founded on a deep commitment to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable neighborhood by growing a strong culture of respect\, participation and cooperation\, and incorporating the principles of cohousing\, eco-architecture and permaculture. With her background in architecture\, Robin guided the entire development and construction phase of this innovative project\, from developing the vision and group agreements around consensus decision-making\, group process and design\, to managing contracts\, budgets and detailed oversight of the construction. \n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Book\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCohousing for Life\nHow did a group of ordinary\, extraordinary people turn a bold vision into thirty-two eco-homes in a flourishing community? What can we learn from their experience to create new housing that supports us to be good neighbours to each other and to the earth? \n\nIn Cohousing for Life\, Robin Allison describes her journey from lonely mother-of-two in the suburbs to a determined driver of the development of New Zealand’s first cohousing community. It is a very personal story of a collective endeavor\, a heroic journey of despair and triumph\, as well as a practical guide for groups wanting to start their own communities.  \n\nCohousing for Life is also a distillation of what has been learnt: from formulating an inspiring vision to community governance and decision-making; from community design principles to participatory design processes; from legal and financial structures to reflections on power and leadership. Robin details the key elements and structures that were critical to achieving their goal\, allowing a group of diverse individuals with ordinary lives and skills to work together over many years to create a large innovative\, housing development. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe Online Event Experience\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nLive Zoom Sessions\nNothing pre-recorded here! SUMMARY:The Role of Professionals in Collaborative Development -- Webinar
DESCRIPTION:April 14 | 7-8pm Eastern \nThe Role of Professionals in Collaborative Development\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Katie McCamant\, cofounder of the North American cohousing movement\, and one of the most experienced and accomplished professionals in the field for this one-hour webinar.\n\nWe believe that authentic\, collaborative communities have the power to change the world\, but if we want to see that change we need to build more communities.
