Common Legal Issues in Community and How to Avoid Them

August 23, 2022 @ 4:00 PM 5:00 PM CDT

Aug 23 | 4-5pm Eastern

Join us for a 1-hour bird’s eye view of legal topics to consider when starting, maintaining, or reforming a community.

Strong and responsive legal agreements within communities are key to both their long-term success and maintaining healthy relationships between community members.

In this webinar, you’ll learn about some of the most common legal issues that communities face and how to prepare for them. Our presenter, Clifford Paulin Esq. has advised communities on the legal aspects of community living for 15 years, so will share from his broad experience.

What you’ll gain from this session:

  • An understanding of the critical legal topics in intentional community that you need to be aware of
  • What to ensure is in your governing documents
  • How to evaluate different choices of legal structure

This is a one-hour teaser for the upcoming 5-week course, Legal Basics for Forming Communities — an immersive program where Clifford Paulin will dive deeper and show you how to translate the values and vision of your group into clear and cohesive agreements.

“Clifford is a wonderful educator, not just his experience and expertise, but his sensibility to the bigger picture and also his foresightful cautions, all provide a great panoramic perspective. He also has a fabulous ability to provide for questions. And in answering them, he goes into the surrounding detail, and then even asks the questioner if that answered the question!”

– Karen Maleski

Teri’s presence, warmth, poise, experience and clarity. I quickly felt at ease and confident that she knew what she was talking about, and could share the material effectively, while also managing the group format. – Jeffrey B

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views.
