Virtual Tour of Intentional Communities

Thinking about joining an intentional community? Curious to learn more about various communities from them directly? Want an inside peak into community living and to get your questions answered?

The Virtual Tour of Intentional Communities is the event experience for you! Each month we bring together a variety of new and established intentional communities — ecovillages, cohousing, shared homes, coliving spaces and more — to present about about their community in an interactive setting. You’ll experience photos, videos, captivating stories, and insightful dialogue among the presenting communitarians. Plenty of time is included for you to ask your burning questions about community living. Come travel to communities around the world without leaving your armchair!

What you’ll get from the Virtual Tour experience:

  • Deeper insight into the lives of communitarians and the places they live
  • Inspiration to get you excited about your own community journey
  • Information about housing and membership opportunities
  • Network building with presenters and fellow participants
  • A sense for what’s alive in the communities movement right now

Presenting Communities

Earthaven Ecovillage

Earthaven is an aspiring ecovillage in a mountain forest setting near Asheville, North Carolina. We are dedicated to caring for people and the Earth by learning, living, and demonstrating a holistic, sustainable culture. Founded in 1994, Earthaven is located on 329 acres in culturally rich, biologically diverse western North Carolina, about 45 minutes southeast of Asheville. We are dedicated to caring for people and the Earth by learning and demonstrating a holistic, sustainable culture. In recent years, our community has consisted of about 75 adult residents and 25 children. We intend to become a village of at least 150 people on 56 homesites.

Bozeman Cohousing

Founded in April 2019, Bozeman Cohousing has been working hard to establish this new, unique neighborhood in our town. We still have spaces for individuals and families who would like to join us and reserve a home purchase. At Bozeman Cohousing, we gather regularly and know each other personally. We are supportive, respectful, flexible and friendly with one another, and we are committed to equitable shared governance. Our community is designed and constructed with an emphasis on sustainability, which our lifestyles also reflect.

Good Tree Farm

Good Tree Farm is starting an interfaith intentional community of employees – who are also part-owners – organized around basic ethical values common to the three Abrahamic faiths. We will form a community that upholds justice as it relates to the rights of people and planet. Our work shall do no harm to the Earth’s environment and ecosystems. Our programming will benefit youth, women, and disadvantaged and marginalized racial and faith minorities. We have 55 acres with space for housing up to 14 adults in phase one and another 14-16 in phase two. Our community will form the team that runs the agribusiness and takes 40% of the annual profits generated.

FoPopolis Community

FoPopolis is a new CoLiving Community in Portland, Oregon consisting of 10 humans, 3 cats, 2 dogs, 7 chickens, 6 geckos and a colony of bees. Started in 2018 with the intention to bring more intentional communities to the area, our goal is to share the benefits and mindset of communal living, and the ways it can create a better reality for all living beings to exist in this world when the communal concepts are taken to heart and practiced in daily life-things like consideration for others, cooperative practice, conflict resolution skills, compassionate communication and the like.

Loved by Community Builders

What a beautiful gift to our intentional community builders and leaders! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC!Terri Garcia

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC.Claire Ogden
