Budget Fluency: How to Manage Your Community’s $$$

Join this 60-min webinar to learn about all things budgeting!

One of the keys to your community’s success is smooth, transparent, fiscally responsible budgeting. But it can be tricky to create a budget within a non-capitalist ownership structure, such as a non-profit, co-op, or intentional community.

This session is designed to help you — as well as your group, donors, staff, and/or board members —understand the impact of budgets on your community. You’ll also learn about the powers and limitations of various roles in creating a budget that includes multiple stakeholders.

During this session you will learn:

  • The basics of how to read a budget
  • Various roles in the budgeting process, especially the Board
  • How to talk about the budget with your community’s constituents
  • How to make the budgeting process smooth and transparent

Meet the Presenters

Liz Anderson

Liz (they/them) is the Director of Education for the North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO). They were first introduced to cooperatives as a worker-owner at Rose City Coffee Co-operative at Earlham College. They majored in Business and Nonprofit Management with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies. Before working at NASCO, LIz’s time working with the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives spurred their dedication to grassroots movement-building in the cooperative sector.

Daniel Miller

Having worked with co-ops at various stages of development as a volunteer, board member, and staff member for over 20 years, Daniel (he/him) now serves as the Director of NASCO Properties. As liason to the board, he works to coordinate maintenance, governance, and budgeting for co-ops in the NASCO Properties system. Daniel also helps co-op organizers in the initial stages of development, give guidance to co-ops on how to operate successfully, identifies potential co-op development projects and assesses their feasibility, and helps co-ops improve their management. Daniel is the staff liaison to the NASCO Properties Board.

What a beautiful gift to our intentional community builders and leaders! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC!Terri Garcia

I am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC.Claire Ogden
