What do you do when you are sick and tired of their behavior, and you don’t have the safety, trust, or energy to work toward a resolution? This 3- hour workshop will walk you through “Behavior Response”, a strategy for working within your values to reduce the negative impact of someone’s unwanted behavior when relationship repair is not an option.
About the event
If you’ve been living in community long enough, chances are someone will really get on your nerves.
Your neighbor may seem disrespectful, stubborn, a poor communicator, unwilling to work with you, or just downright rude. Odds are good that you have tried to talk to them, asked them to stop, sent some emails, asked others for help, and listened to their point of view. Now, you’re too tired, too hurt, too discouraged, too angry or too all of it to try again.
If you find yourself a similar place, this workshop is for you.
Living in community doesn’t always mean you need to repair all relationships. It means you need to learn how to coexist with behaviors and personalities you might not appreciate.
In this immersive workshop, we will work through “Behavior Response”, a process that guides each individual to find their own best response to behaviors they don’t like. Our instructor Karen Gimnig won’t give you the answers. Instead, she will guide you on a path towards asking yourself the hard questions, finding your own answers, and discovering the options that will serve you best. You will leave equipped with relational tools which can support you now and in the future, creating the emotional agility to navigate challenging relationships.
This 3-hour workshop starts with some work on deep listening, followed by a step-by-step walkthrough of the Behavior Response process. Participants will work in pairs to deepen their thinking and work through their personal topics.
You will complete this workshop with a tool you can take back to your community for support in difficult situations.
In this session, you’ll learn about:
- Deep listening
- Identifying unpleasant behaviors and their impacts
- Finding values-aligned responses that improve the situation
