About the event
Labor is one of the most important ways that we contribute to making our communities real. Longtime communitarian Yana Ludwig helps us think about the dynamics around getting work done in community. From labor budgets to hard conversations about money and contributions, this session is a high-level look at ways we can do a more balanced job of managing work. This stimulating session will be thought-provoking for both forming communities and ones that are many years into the journey together.
In this session, we’ll explore the power of 4 key questions to help us develop healthy work systems in our groups:
- Why are we here?
- How much work is needed?
- How do we make it fulfilling?
- How do we talk about it?
About your presenter
Yana Ludwig
Yana served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Intentional Community for over a decade. She has lived in community for 26 years and was a founder 4 times – all of her work is grounded in deep community experience.
Her writing includes The Cooperative Culture Handbook (co-authored with Karen Gimnig) focuses on articulating a vision and practical pathway for intentional culture building; and many articles in Communities magazine. Her latest book is on starting intentional communities, Building Belonging: Your Guide to Starting a Residential Intentional Community.
Yana is the former Executive Director of the Center for Sustainable and Cooperative Culture at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage and the North Coast Food Web in Oregon. Bringing what we learn in community into nonprofit and worker co-op spaces is one of her passions. She is a dynamic, compassionate and thoughtful speaker and teacher, committed to creating a more just and resilient world. Learn more about Yana here.
