For 16 years, the City Repair Project has been gathering annually for the Village Building Convergence, a 10-day event focusing on permaculture and placemaking in Portland, OR.
Even residents who haven’t heard of the event have experienced its impact: its projects include “intersection repairs” that have created some of Portland’s most colorful and liveliest crossroads; a strawbale house at the Dignity Village homeless encampment; and cobb benches along many city sidewalks.
This year’s theme is “Weaving Together – What Will It Take?” and will host activities at up 40 participating sites each day. The hands-on projects are free; evening workshops, dinners, and musical events will take place at St. David’s Community Center and cost $17 per night.
The VBC is a great example of how permaculture doesn’t have to end at the city limits. We can work together to make our urban areas more livable, sustainable, and community-oriented!
Check out the event flyer below and learn more at VillageBuildingConvergence.com or on Facebook. Activities will take place from June 3-12, and housing packages are available for out-of-town attendees.
