One of the most exciting things about building community in the age of the Internet and social media is that it’s easier than ever to get an inside look at the communities that interest us. While nothing can replace an in-person visit, a new web series called “intentional” comes as close you can get to seeing what life is like in an an ecovillage or intentional community from afar.
A team called Living Paradise is creating hour-long episodes featuring interviews and beautifully-shot footage of communities all over the U.S. So far, they’ve visited communities in Florida and Missouri, and are currently producing an episode in Asheville, N.C.
Episode 1 profiles Sustainable Kashi, an ashram in Florida that we featured on the blog last week. You’ll learn about the history of the community, its plans for sustainable development, its business model, and what draws people to live there.
Episode 2 explores life at Dancing Rabbit, a rural ecovillage in Rutledge, Missouri. Residents talk about the cost of living, how they make sustainable choices as a community, and their experience in the Dancing Rabbit visitor program.
Does visiting and documenting life in a intentional community sound appealing to you? You can apply to join the team and be part of the project yourself. Food and travel expenses are covered in exchange for volunteer work on the documentary or blog.
Check out Episode 1 (available for free on YouTube) and watch the trailer for episode 2 below. You can stream or download Episode 2 for $2.99 on Vimeo, or purchase all of Season 1 for $30.00.
