Join decolonial scholar and consultant on relationship management and organizational development, Jahia LaSangoma, for a one-hour webinar on Power Dynamics in Community.
Despite our best intentions at creating an alternative space to the exterior norms of our society, we can’t help but bring the power imbalances instilled in us from birth into our new communities.
Jahia LaSangoma will discuss real-life examples of power dynamics in intentional communities around gender, sexual orientation, class, race, and nationality/language of origin, and hold space for attendees to track their experiences of witnessing ‘power at play.’ The webinar will also include theoretical and historical examples of power dynamics, both within and outside of community.
She will then present strategies for cultivating awareness of personal power, provide ideas for how to hold space for more marginalised community members, and give her own experience in learning how to ‘redirect the energy’ in the middle of tense moments where power comes into question in community.
Jahia is a land-based ‘artivist,’ writer, and scholar with roots in Berlin. Since 2022, her written creative and research-based work has begun to be published internationally in print and online in the United States and Europe. Jahia served on the Board of Directors of the BIPOC Intentional Community Council (BIPOC ICC) between November 2021 and November 2022, and contributed greatly to the work of the BIPOC ICC. She is a consultant for systems change and development for organizations. An acclaimed essayist, skilled project manager, and event curator, she creates at the intersection of memoir, research, performance, spirituality, and decolonization. She also holds a master’s degree in Public Policy, with a concentration in Management & Organization.
