Join communitarian Laird Schaub to learn how to address and meet needs through the creation of support teams for elders in community.

About the event

Not everyone will be able to manage their own requests for help. Support teams are recommended to help seniors and other members that struggle to get their basic needs met. These teams work discreetly to make it easier for members to disclose needs and get them filled.

Once engaged, the Support Team will sit down with the household and develop an accurate picture of the needs, breaking down what is being requested into specific, well-defined tasks. This becomes especially manageable when strong relationships between households are created. It’s essential to build your social capital so that when asking for help, you are met in the middle. Having a Support Team does not necessarily mean you are promised aid, but it does mean a community supported effort will be made to assist households get the word out about their situation and their specific needs.

We all need help sometimes, and living in community can make this stressor such a relief when handled responsibly. In the Creating Support Teams for Elders in Community workshop, you will learn how to develop the selection process in creating a support team and how to choose which members will be most appropriate to fill the positions.

In this workshop, you’ll:

  • understand the importance of creating a care team for seniors
  • learn how to balance transparency and discretion within the care team
  • learn how to best select support team members
