Join us for a hands-on introduction to the ZEGG Forum, a community tool designed to promote transparency, empathy, and understanding. In a time when the world urgently needs tools for authentic relating, the Forum offers a tried and true practice where people share deeply and transform pain into deeper, more meaningful relationships.

About the event

The ZEGG Forum is a transformational interactive process originally created by the radical communitarians of Germany’s ZEGG Community (Center for Experimental Cultural Design). Designed for revealing what’s under the surface in relationship dynamics, Forum provides fertile ground for personal growth and community resilience, especially when undertaken in communities dedicated to individual and collective transformation.

The goal of the Forum is to uncover what is alive but not known to all, or explicitly named. The community sits in a circle, forming a stage for one person at a time to stand and express what is true for them. Facilitators may assist the person (or “presenter”) to reveal themselves more deeply.  Afterwards, community members may offer reflections, or “mirrors” on what they saw.

Especially when interpersonal conflicts and polarizing issues arise, each person shares from the heart and is facilitated to go to the root of their truth, not just their initial reactions.

When we get to the core of conflicts, rooted in universal needs and desires, we start to see clearly and relate to the humanity in each of us. This level of empathy and understanding is a key motivation for groups to collectively find solutions.

About your Presenters

Debby Sugarman

For decades, Debby Sugarman has been drawn to the edge of culture change – the place where a whole community asks: how much more can we grow together? She sees ZEGG Forum as a beautiful crucible where a community discovers together what is possible in group spaces.

Debby has been training Forum facilitators since 2011 and is thrilled to bring ZEGG Forum to intentional communities, friend groups, organizations, workplaces and schools. Debby is also passionate about mediation, facilitation, organizing community events, and creating and exploring new ways for people to deepen their connections with each other.

Sarah Taub

Sarah Taub is a cultural activist whose passion is creating events where people transform. She teaches relationship and community skills such as self-awareness, honesty, clear boundaries – as well as leading groups to greater emotional, physical, and spiritual intimacy. Since 2004 she has been a core organizer of East Coast New Culture events (https://www.cfnc.us) aimed at creating a culture based on love and freedom. Sarah co-founded the first cohousing community in Washington, DC, and now lives in a small intentional community / retreat center in West Virginia, USA (https://www.ic.org/directory/allegheny-crest-intentional-village/).  She studied Forum facilitation with Achim Ecker and Ina Meyer-Stoll of ZEGG and with Teryani Riggs, and has been facilitating Forum since 2004, and training Forum facilitators since 2011.

What excites Sarah most is holding space for the deepest group conflicts so that an even deeper level of connection, understanding, and creativity can emerge.
