Renaissance Farms is a living experiment in ecological beauty, creative expression, and communal healing. Nestled among the gentle hills of central Massachusetts, the farm is home to herbs, flowers, bees, and a growing number of artistic and educational projects.
We are building a residency-based community — especially those rebuilding, reimagining, or renewing their lives. This is not a co-ownership or land-share model; rather, it’s a temporary sanctuary for those seeking to reconnect with nature, explore folk practices, practice yoga, and contribute to the collective tending of the land and spirit.
We believe in meliorism — that through beauty, compassion, and effort, the world can be made better. Our work weaves together ecological stewardship, folk tradition, and the arts as tools for healing and transformation.
Residents may join in cultivating herbs and flowers, caring for bees, creating art, hosting workshops, or contributing to community outreach. Each member is invited to live gently, create freely, and leave strengthened to carry this spirit into new communities beyond our fields.

Step 1 – Initial Contact
If you’re interested in joining the residency community at Renaissance Farms, please send an introductory email. Share a bit about yourself, your interests, and what draws you to this vision.
Step 2 – Introductory Conversation
After your initial message, we’ll schedule a virtual visit or conversation to get acquainted. If you live nearby, we can arrange an in-person visit to walk the land and explore possibilities.
Step 3 – Application Form
Prospective residents will complete a brief application form to help us understand who you are, what you’re seeking, your unique circumstances, and the skills or energy you hope to contribute to the community. This helps ensure that we are a good fit for one another.
Step 4 – Background Check
Because there are children present on the farm, all residents must consent to a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check as part of the application process. This is standard for intentional and family-inclusive communities and helps ensure a safe and harmonious environment for all.
Step 5 – Residency Agreement
Accepted residents will sign a simple Residency Agreement outlining mutual expectations around land use, participation, and community living. Length of stay is flexible, typically ranging from three months to two years, depending on the needs and goals of the resident.

Renaissance Farms is privately owned and operated by founder Nissa Gadbois, who serves as land steward and community guide. While legal ownership must remain in her name for the protection of the property and its mission, community governance follows a modified consensus model.
Residents and collaborators are encouraged to participate in open dialogue and shared decision-making regarding daily life, events, projects, and community priorities. Whenever possible, decisions are reached through collaboration and consensus, honoring the diverse experiences and insights of all who live and work here.
In matters concerning land use, safety, or long-term sustainability, the final decision rests with the owner, ensuring legal integrity and continuity of the farm’s mission.
Our governance approach reflects the values of respect, cooperation, and kindness, balancing individual autonomy with collective care. Each resident’s voice matters, and all are invited to contribute ideas, energy, and creative vision toward our shared purpose of healing, creativity, and regeneration.
Members maintain separate personal finances with minimal sharing.

Renaissance Farms welcomes a diverse range of residents — from artists and herbalists to remote workers and those in life transition. We believe that each community member brings unique gifts, and that livelihood and participation should reflect both personal capacity and the rhythms of the land.
Most residents will likely choose to maintain independent income through remote work, creative pursuits, or local employment. Others choose to engage more deeply with the farm’s daily life — tending herbs and flowers, assisting with the apothecary or shop, teaching workshops, or supporting farm and arts events, and related programming.
All residents contribute 8 hours per week to community projects, according to their skills and interests. This might include gardening, maintenance, hospitality, or helping coordinate artistic and educational events. Additional contributions beyond the baseline may be credited toward a portion of residency fees when appropriate.
Our goal is to foster balance — ensuring that residents have the freedom to pursue personal healing and creative work while participating meaningfully in the shared life of the farm. This collaborative rhythm of giving and receiving helps sustain the spirit of Renaissance Farms as a living, breathing community of regeneration and care.
