Finca Sagrada is a multigenerational community in Ecuador’s Vilcabamba valley, centered on child-led development and ecological restoration. We practice natural building with adobe and local materials, develop permaculture food systems, and participate in the adjacent Kuntur Wachana reforestation initiative.
Our community organizes around the wellbeing of all members and especially children, and the health of land. Our culture of Being creates a focus on presence and experience vs accomplishments and objectives.
Daily life integrates hands-on work, collective decision-making, and learning through direct experience. Children grow with freedom to explore and develop surrounded by nature and multiple caring adults.
We welcome aligned visitors interested in experiencing community life and/or contributing work. We are currently exploring structures for new members as we transition toward collective ownership. Contact us to discuss possibilities.
Adjacent to our community land, the Kuntur Wachana project is restoring 235 hectares of degraded Andean dry forest mountain terrain. Through partnership with Árbol con Razón Foundation, over 20,000 native trees have been planted with 80% survival rates. The project aims to regenerate cloud forest ecosystems, protect watersheds, and create wildlife corridors.
*New Internship Program – An Immersive Experience in Permaculture & Agroecology*
More than a rigid program, this internship is a dynamic and flexible space. Each participant will have the opportunity to integrate according to their interests, such as permaculture and bio construction. Includes demonstrations, discussions and workshops that complement the experience, offering tools to apply in other contexts. Integrate into community life with shared routines, opportunities for dialogue, and collaboration on collective projects. Emilio, our instructor, has volunteered on seven permaculture-related projects in five countries. In Mexico he had the opportunity to host over 150 volunteers in three years, in addition to university interns, school visits, and workshops. Internship program fees include food & accommodations. Finca Sagrada is a nature based, multigenerational learning center where people can reconnect to self, community and nature through heartfelt thinking.
Current Focus: Natural building with local materials, regenerative agriculture and food forests, child-centered living and learning, developing governance structures for collective land stewardship, active participation in mountain reforestation, personal and community transformation opportunities.
If a person wishes to join our community we ask them to stay in the community for three to six months. If there is mutual resonance, there is a community conversation to discuss membership.
