Windbreak is a forming intentional community seeking to create a rural community of between 50 – 250 diverse individuals located within eight hours driving of Cincinnati, OH. The community is in the initial stages of forming the “founding group” (10-13 adults) with a goal of purchasing community land in the next 3-5 years.
As an intentional community, Windbreak seeks to develop deep, supportive relationships among its members by practicing radical honesty, non-violent communication, and establishing a culture that prioritizes personal autonomy and accountability on our paths to self-actualization. The community will invest in land improvements meant to be passed on to subsequent generations, and mindfully create infrastructure to support cradle-to-grave living on its common land.
Windbreak seeks to provide a path for its Members to divest themselves from contemporary capitalist society as much as possible (and desired) by becoming as self-sufficient as possible and creating a robust hyper-local, time-based economy.
The community aims to provide an equitable and inclusive environment and provide a place to retreat, rest, and recharge for marginalized groups as well as those doing the work of creating a more just and equitable world. Windbreak will serve as an educational center providing classes, workshops, and camps for all ages to pass along the knowledge the community acquires along our journey of developing one example of alternative living.
While there are many aspects of the project that are rooted in immutable values and principles, there are many decisions that still need to be made. The “Founding Group,” will work together closely to further refine the Vision and Mission as well as co-create the systems, structures, agreements, policies, and legal organization necessary for creating and sustaining a thriving resilient community.

Windbreak is a diverse community that provides refuge from the exploitative system that dominates our word. It replaces consumption and convenience with simplicity and social richness while providing one example of vibrant self-sufficient sustainable living, and mindfully considers its impact on future generations of all forms of life.
Mission
Windbreak seeks to create an evidence-based, multi-generational intentional community that joyfully works, plays, and grows together. As an educational center we pursue experimentation, and life-long learning, passing along the knowledge that we acquire. As a sanctuary we provide respite and gathering space for those doing the work of creating a more just and equitable world. We compassionately support each other on our journey to a more healthful and Earth-centric way of life.
