We will be a 4-6 person group of forward thinking, aging feminists endeavoring to create an intentional, self governing community model for affirmatively managing the joys and universal eventualities of aging, declining and dying. We share a love of the outdoors, animals, social action, community involvement, environmentally conscious living, physical activity, laughter, learning, friendship, and a commitment to living lightly on the planet. We intend to cultivate a community in which we each commit to the importance of our physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional health as we age, while recognizing the intrinsic limits of prolonging life beyond a normal course of health or life. We intend to implement a system for looking after one another to promote independence in each of our own homes on shared land while preparing financially to engage professional shared caregivers when members’ care needs exceeds what members alone can provide.
Currently seeking founding members.
The mission of Self-Governing Cooperatives for Aging is to enable each of us to grow old and age in place with optimal personal agency, physical activity, comfort, and companionship by anticipating and providing for the changing needs of co-op members. This mission compels us to approach this part of our lives with the assumption that some or all of us will experience physical and/or cognitive decline.
