What we do

A healthy older couple, with 20 acres, lots of assets just sitting, with full knowledge of homesteading, standard and alternative construction, permaculture, regenerative living, animal husbandry and growing stuff seeks community. The place is a mess, but changing daily for the better. No fragrances, smoking, toxic chemical or wifi allowed on premises due to health issues. We’re good teachers, looking to share with wanna be farmers/homesteaders. Provide your own off grid accommodations, we are not picky. Cover the cost of your living here, and we can work together for the benefit of us all. We have one 40 something male living in his camperized van. He enjoys being the grunt labor, but does not want to be in charge of anything, and is not a self starter. For the right people, there are farming enterprises that can be built and be profitable, but you will need to support yourself to get there.
We own the 20 acres, but we farm the 40 next door as well without a long term contract on it. Currently we have 2 pure bred Jersey cows and Jersey mix cow with her bull calf. We are in the process of replacing 30 year old fencing, rebuilding the garden beds and creating a chicken complex. Another project for this year is an off grid water supply.

Our Mission

We have spent 30 years learning how to live, farm and enjoy life while being easy on the planet. Our farm is net zero waste, when operating properly, neutral or negative for carbon. At times, we have been able to eat 90% of our food from the farm. A long term battle with cancer and age have slowed us down, now we need help, but mostly we want a chance to pass on knowledge. I have my permaculture certificate and we are fairly well known in the regenerative ag movement..

Basic expectations or agreements for members

Send us an email, show up for a work day, come for a visit. Lets talk.

Primary decision-making authority

  • Single Leader or Founding Couple

One person or partnership has ultimate authority.

Decision-making process

  • Modified Consensus

Generally seek agreement, but have backup methods when consensus isn’t reached.

Governance structure

  • Collaborative/Horizontal

Power and responsibility are shared relatively equally among members.

Conflict resolution approach

For now, as the owners, we are in control. But this can change as the community grows. The only firm rules have to do with chemical sensitivities, most other stuff can be negotiated.

Economic model

  • Complete Income-Sharing

All member income goes into common pool for community use.

Economic scenarios for this community

  • There is a labor obligation

Additional economic information

Labor: Yes (12 hrs/week)
At present there is no income, so that would need to be created before it can be shared. If you have debt, you must have the income to pay it without depending on the farm. I am not sure about the job market here. Our current laborer can not find a job, locally. He wants weekends off as he has a 9 year old son he spends most weekends with.
We have a huge variety of things that could bring in some money that could be set up in a very short time period, 2-3 months. We have no desire to make money off anyone.

Worktrade Opportunities on Big Island Hawaii

We are continuing our work-trade program at Bridge Hawaii for the right people on this beautiful 86-acre land located along the Hāmākua Coast. Ideally, we want to host those individuals who can help with the garden and who can support with build projects for up to a 3 month stay. This work-trade would include lodging, food staples, community kitchen, running hot water showers, off-grid electricity, and laundry. There is access to high speed wi-fi. We often have a car that can be reserved. We also have full bar signal strength with Verizon cellphone service. We have about 2 acres of permaculture garden that needs to be cared for including; weeding, planting, picking up mulch, some tree trimming, ect. We are currently in a building stage on the land. We have a few current grant projects we are working on and some build projects that are underway. We are an intentional community with about 8 permanent residents. There are rescue dairy cows, mini cows, mini donkeys, horses, a donkey, cats, dogs, and active bee hives. We are a drug and alcohol “free” space. A glass of wine or beer with dinner is fine, but absolutely no day drinking or parties. We have a meditation temple and many waterfall pools that are wonderful for swimming. Close to some of the nicest beaches on island. We have snorkeling gear and a kayak. Since this is an animal sanctuary, we limit the consumption of meat on the land. Fish, eggs, honey, and dairy are fine. Let me know if you’re interested by sending an email or text for our application. Maomi (801) 623-0738 ma***@*****************ii.com
