What we do

Hello and a warm welcome to Rainbow Family Community!
Feel free to access our document here too…https://docs.google.com/document/d/193hVO96vSphlWlUy3xLov5xqPInq-HLbWrjLM2fZ6XA/edit?usp=sharing
I started this group because I care about people connecting and having support. Not all of us are able to have Disney versions of family and through no fault of our own have had difficulties with having supportive people in our life.
Some of us have toxic family members, no living relatives, raised through the foster care system, have moved and traveled so much that we are far away from our loved ones, and many other reasons for not having access to a healthy and reliable family system.
This is a place where we can meet with caring and nurturing people who want to be in a family with you. What we mean by that is we are the kind of people who will call each other for support, we will bring each other soup when we are sick, we will give each other advice when we need it, vent when we’ve had a rough day, we will celebrate together and overall become each other’s support system and village.
A healthy, reliable, and caring family is wonderful to have and we believe that everyone should have people they can count on.
We are LGBTQ+, queer, transgender, straight, have ethically non-monogamous, traditional, & aeromatic relationships, accepting of having religious beliefs and atheists (provided you are honoring and accepting of all people) We are nomads, locals, and people who love to travel. We honor the vulnerabilities of our youth and adults (who are indeed still youth inside) and help each other out. No one is ever too old to have fun and no one is ever too young to be wise.
We believe a solitary life of being overly independent and never needing help and being perfect is hogwash. Togetherness is better and happiness is meaningful when shared. Mistakes, fumbles, and imperfections are what make us wonderfully flawed and human.
We value all people, all abilities, all cultures, and respectfully try to understand each other’s differences. We praise generosity over greed, humbleness over arrogance, work-life balance over workaholic culture, and compassion over selfishness. We value the immigrants who come from far away to make good lives for themselves as well as the person who never quite fits into novel society because they are curious and ask too many questions. We honor who we are and choose to be.
We don’t judge each other for the lifestyle we choose or may have limited choice over. We acknowledge we all have our own paths, wants, and needs. What we do have in common is that we are available for connection which requires emotional vulnerability & the physicality of being there in presence.
What it’s like to be part of this community
I envision us knocking on each other’s doors for coffee and conversation. Need a hand with building a table? Want to start a gaming server? You will know people who like those things also and want to be involved. Want someone to go for a walk with, watch the children play at the park, hang out, there for good times and bad. Have some wine over a potluck dinner, dance around a campfire, play volleyball in the summertime, listen and play musical instruments.
Attend each other’s gatherings, ceremonies, birthdays, have multi-cultural holiday parties etc. We may host meetups at campsites and plan a travel adventure together. Everyone has a voice, everyone contributes and everyone matters. We like to use collaboration & consensus as well when deciding things as a group, so everyone agrees when something affects us all.
There will be different roles available, where someone may be in charge of planning a trip, dinner party, managing the membership fees, a website, newsletter writing etc. We expect adult members to have a willingness to contribute and help build this community. Children, Teenagers, and Young Adults are welcome to contribute as well and we look forward to hearing your ideas!
Location
Our community is location independent. Rather than being tied to one neighborhood or city, we gather where our members are and where opportunities arise.
If you’re excited by the idea of occasional travel, shared adventures, and building relationships that extend beyond one place, you’ll likely enjoy being part of this community. We also believe physical presence is important, so you should be at least attending some in person events each year.
Housing
When it comes to housing this is something we found hard to find in other communities. Usually people had to buy in and have a substantial amount of money to own a home. Most of the time housing wasn’t even available and rentals were few as well.
We think housing should be up to you, and while it would be nice to be neighbors who can walk to each other’s houses, we believe an intentional community is more important than living nearby. For that reason we leave the housing decision to you.
We are location independent, you don’t have to live nearby to be part of this community. What matters is that you attend gatherings and contribute to building this community.
For those who do want to live closer to community members, live in shared housing, have other ideas etc that would be wonderful as well and we can chat more about that too.

13. What skills, hobbies, knowledge, or life experiences would you enjoy sharing with others?
14. Our community is location independent, and gatherings may take place in different places over time. How do you feel about traveling to spend time with community members?

Worktrade Opportunities on Big Island Hawaii

We are continuing our work-trade program at Bridge Hawaii for the right people on this beautiful 86-acre land located along the Hāmākua Coast. Ideally, we want to host those individuals who can help with the garden and who can support with build projects for up to a 3 month stay. This work-trade would include lodging, food staples, community kitchen, running hot water showers, off-grid electricity, and laundry. There is access to high speed wi-fi. We often have a car that can be reserved. We also have full bar signal strength with Verizon cellphone service. We have about 2 acres of permaculture garden that needs to be cared for including; weeding, planting, picking up mulch, some tree trimming, ect. We are currently in a building stage on the land. We have a few current grant projects we are working on and some build projects that are underway. We are an intentional community with about 8 permanent residents. There are rescue dairy cows, mini cows, mini donkeys, horses, a donkey, cats, dogs, and active bee hives. We are a drug and alcohol “free” space. A glass of wine or beer with dinner is fine, but absolutely no day drinking or parties. We have a meditation temple and many waterfall pools that are wonderful for swimming. Close to some of the nicest beaches on island. We have snorkeling gear and a kayak. Since this is an animal sanctuary, we limit the consumption of meat on the land. Fish, eggs, honey, and dairy are fine. Let me know if you’re interested by sending an email or text for our application. Maomi (801) 623-0738 ma***@*****************ii.com

Rooms in Beautiful Location in downtown East Austin

Mountain Laurel House has upcoming room openings on August 1 and September 1 to share our house in central East Austin close to downtown. Rent is $925 per month with $75 to cover your share of the utilities and maintenance. You provide your own food. We enjoy sharing a meal at the dining table at least once a month for fun, to check in on our lives, and talk about housekeeping together. To apply, email do*************@***il.com with subject line Room at Mountain Laurel House. Request the brief application questions and we’ll provide more info and answer your questions. Mountain Laurel House is in a great location! It’s on a green cul de sac, with a wooded lot to the southwest and a green open space to the west. It’s close to the East 11th & Rosewood dining and entertainment district and right across from the Carver Library and a bus stop. We’re in walking distance to downtown Austin, the State Capitol, Huston-Tillotson University and a short bike or bus ride to the University of Texas; and, south or east of here, Lady Bird Lake and Boggy Creek hike and bike trails, park lands, swimming pools, pickleball and basketball courts. I kayak on Town Lake aka Lady Bird Lake or swim just across downtown at Deep Eddy or Barton Springs fresh-water, spring-fed swimming pools. We enjoy sharing a meal at the dining table at least once a month for fun, to check in on our lives, and plan housekeeping together. HEB is a short 5 minute drive east on 7th St. and Whole Foods is about a ten minute walk from here on 5th St. Amenities in the house include a dishwasher, utility room with a clothes washer-dryer and an optional clothesline, high-speed internet, a big dining room table for meals or activities, and a large screen TV for movie nights. The yard has beautiful native wildlife habitat gardens, veggie and herb pots, a large Cedar Elm, two Live Oaks, a fruit-bearing Fig, a Champenelle grape vine, and a Chili pequin. The cul de sac is a large park-like
