La Querencia is an established, multigenerational cohousing community in northeast Fresno, California. We are a small neighborhood of 28 privately owned homes built around, a large common house, gardens, play areas, a pool, workshop, gym, and other shared spaces.
At La Querencia, people have their own private homes, but we also make room for real neighborliness. We share meals, work together on community projects, care for our shared spaces, celebrate holidays and birthdays, and help each other in ordinary ways — watching out for kids, lending tools, giving rides, bringing food when someone is sick, or stopping to talk along the path.
We are not a commune, retreat center, or utopian project. We are a real neighborhood, with real people, real responsibilities, and all the normal ups and downs of living in community. What makes us different is that we intentionally choose to know our neighbors and participate in shaping the place we live.
Our community includes children, families, single adults, couples, retirees, working people, creatives, teachers, professionals, and people in many stages of life. Kids have other kids nearby to play with, and adults (and kids) have the chance to build friendships across generations.
La Querencia is primarily self-managed. Residents serve on teams and committees, help with maintenance and decision-making, and participate in the ongoing work of keeping the community healthy. Participation matters here. We are looking for people who want not just a home, but a community they are willing to be part of.
At the same time, privacy is important. Each household has its own private space, and people participate in different ways depending on their capacity, season of life, and interests. The goal is not to be busy all the time; it is to live near people who care about one another and are willing to contribute.
We are located in an established part of northeast Fresno, near schools, parks, shopping, trails, and everyday conveniences. Fresno also offers access to local food, arts, universities, and outdoor recreation, with the Sierra Nevada and several national parks within reach for day trips.
The best way to understand La Querencia is to visit, walk the paths, see the common house and gardens, meet some neighbors, and get a feel for daily life here. We welcome people who are curious about cohousing, intentional community, shared responsibility, and a more connected way of living.
La Querencia is a neighborhood where people know each other, children grow up surrounded by caring adults and other kids, and daily life is strengthened by friendship, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Our membership is self-selected, but we strongly encourage visiting and getting to know us (at least a little) before renting or purchasing.

A few people (not elected by the broader community) make the major decisions.
