Kriya House is a house in the suburbs, but it’s way more than just that! We are blending the comfort of a home with the vibrations of a meditation center. Our current members practice kriya yoga. One of them operates a farm (land leased 5 minutes north) with chickens, rabbits, a CSA and flowers. Another member is a media production specialist, shooting photos and videos, recording audio, and generally being a kick-ass creative. The third and fourth tenants are multipotentialites, with income coming from both horticulture and caregiving, as well as helping out on the farm. We aim to collaborate as a household, though our finances are all separate. We contribute to the mortgage which belongs to a generous and inspired friend.
The home has been a host to many events, and will continue to do so! The backyard is fenced is slowly transfomring into a permaculture haven as well as an outdoor meditation and ceremonial space. There is a market in this area to host regular kirtan, and many spiritual seekers gather at our various events where people take turns at the focal point as speakers, and we occasionally host workshops and ceremonies. We play music, meditate, get sunshine, and eat well every day.
Our two-story home features two common ‘living room’ areas (one on the main floor and one in the basement), and a fenced-in garden (in progress to becoming a permaculture haven, but not very far along as of this writing). Our goal is to create a meditative sanctuary filled with nourishing or healing plants, sitting areas, and sacred art. Oftentimes we have rooms available (around $800 p month) because the home has five(ish)bedrooms total. We value clean, mindful living and prioritize maintaining an inviting, peaceful space. Housemates share responsibilities to keep common areas tidy, by cultivating the habit of cleaning up as you cook, and finishing projects one starts. We are an alcohol and tobacco free home.

Yoga Life: We center our daily lives around our meditation practice, and we take a holistic view on the 8 limbs of yoga. We cultivate inner peace and attunement with the divine. We play music, cook food, go out, have jobs, navigate relationships, and are involved with the world in all its material essence, but we cultivate the sattvic lifestyle to the best of our ability.
Balance of Structure and Freedom: We maintain a peaceful, mindful home environment without rigid dogma, allowing room for authentic expression and diverse opinions that spark personal and collective growth. Garden: We believe in the sacredness of nature, the simplicity of homegrown meals, the necessity of resilient systems, both for our survival and our health, and we aspire to grow a beautiful garden centered around regenerative practices. We have collaborations with other organizations in the area to bring regenerative land care practices to urban, suburban, and rural lawns everywhere.

Property manager and landlord have predetermined a few basic community standards, such as cleanliness protocols, timeliness of payment, and respectful communication pathways.
