What we do

Hummingbird Community is located on 486 acres of lush land nestled against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. We began as a non-local community within Global Family bonding through our extensive international peace and educational work. Global Family, founded in 1986, is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization affiliated with the United Nations whose purpose is to support a shift in consciousness from separation and fear to unity, love, and cooperation.
As social pioneers, Hummingbird Community is dedicated to the practices and principles of Co-Creation in service to the evolution of consciousness. We honor diverse spiritual traditions, and are committed to personal and planetary transformation. Since founding Hummingbird Community in 1996, we have grown into a diverse group of deeply connected members who support one another in fulfilling each of our souls’ purpose.
Hummingbird Community is in service to Hummingbird Transformational Living Center, an educational 501c3 non-profit organization.

How to join

Growing our resident membership is an organic process for us. As we engage with people who visit us, attend our courses, and meet at our Visitor’s Weekends, what begins as mutual recognition can possibly lead to becoming a member. A series of pathways are involved in this process of discovering resonance and “right relationship”.

Basic expectations or agreements for members

Visit our website hummingbirdtlc.org or hummingbirdcommunity.org and learn about the community. Contact us and let us know your interest. Come to one of our Visitor’s Weekends.

Primary decision-making authority

  • Small Leadership Group

A few people (not elected by the broader community) make the major decisions.

Decision-making process

  • Others

Governance structure

  • Undefined/Evolving

Still developing or unclear governance approach.

Conflict resolution approach

We have developed a process called Attuned Alignment, a spiritualized form of consensus in which we attune to the highest and best good for the community. Individuals soften their attachment to their personal views and allow for a higher recognition of the good of the whole and the good of each individual.
Our current leadership group for the long term welfare of the community is the circle of Stewards (full members), from which we delegate specific responsibility to a variety of empowered teams. The Plenary, which also includes non-steward members, makes decisions about the daily life of the community.

Economic model

  • Partial Income-Sharing

Members contribute a percentage of income to community funds.

Economic scenarios for this community

  • There is a one-time fee, investment, or share purchase to join the community separate from accessing housing
  • Members need to pay fees, dues, or similar to live there on a per month or per year basis
  • There is a labor obligation

Additional economic information

Join fee: Yes
Regular fees: $90
Labor: Yes
Each of us does what we can when another community member is in need. We are currently exploring our transition to a new economic paradigm model.
We are a growing community with far more needs for work to be done than people here to do it. Rather than defining specific work requirements, we co-create with each person what their work and contribution will be. Work involves physical labor, project teams, and administrative support. Stewards (full members) have committed to be fully engaged in the community and to do what each feels is their highest contribution to the community.
We intend to honor and empower the gifts, skills and talents new people bring to us.
Our fees are listed on our website. These are the current guidelines based on the fact that we do have financial responsibilities as a community. Everyone is welcome to explore possibilities with us. We are flexible and at the same time we all take responsibility for the financial needs of the whole.
Every member holds the responsibility for the expenses of the community, and each contributes according to their capability, financially and/or creative participation in solutions.
