We are continuing our work-trade program at Bridge Hawaii for the right people on this beautiful 86-acre land located along the Hāmākua Coast. Ideally, we want to host those individuals who can help with the garden and who can support with build projects for up to a 3 month stay. This work-trade would include lodging, food staples, community kitchen, running hot water showers, off-grid electricity, and laundry. There is access to high speed wi-fi. We often have a car that can be reserved. We also have full bar signal strength with Verizon cellphone service. We have about 2 acres of permaculture garden that needs to be cared for including; weeding, planting, picking up mulch, some tree trimming, ect. We are currently in a building stage on the land. We have a few current grant projects we are working on and some build projects that are underway. We are an intentional community with about 8 permanent residents. There are rescue dairy cows, mini cows, mini donkeys, horses, a donkey, cats, dogs, and active bee hives. We are a drug and alcohol “free” space. A glass of wine or beer with dinner is fine, but absolutely no day drinking or parties. We have a meditation temple and many waterfall pools that are wonderful for swimming. Close to some of the nicest beaches on island. We have snorkeling gear and a kayak. Since this is an animal sanctuary, we limit the consumption of meat on the land. Beautifully maintained and spacious home in the woods! The first floor features an open-concept kitchen with granite countertops and island off the great room, which includes a river rock wood fireplace in the living room. Large windows and skylights let the light shine in year round. Walk out the French doors onto a covered patio and pavered area for outdoor living. A bonus room is included on this floor in addition to the single-car garage. A large laundry room with lots of storage and a 3/4 bathroom complete the first floor. Solid oak flooring is throughout the home. The second floor includes 3 nicely sized bedrooms and a bathroom with a large soaker tub, dual sinks, and newly remodeled shower enclosure. Walk out the second floor to a large grassy area that is part of the shared community space. The top floor is a spacious room with skylights and a full bathroom. Total rooms is 3-4 bedrooms + office and 2-3/4 bathrooms. This home is part of the Sharingwood Cohousing community. The neighborhood incudes 23 acres of greenbelt where a stream flows during fall and winter. The common areas include a common house, play structures, a greenhouse, and community garden. Get to know your neighbors in this community of 29 single-family homes. Residents join teams and volunteer a few hours a month as participants in the community. My first communal living experience was in 1972. Since then there have been many group housing situations. Now as a partly-retired grandmother, I no longer wish to live alone. I want to share in a positive way my abilities & skills. I don’t have a great deal of money but do have many talents to bring to a community. I’m a clean, sober, reliable hardworking woman. I cooked professionally, worked as an office manager, records specialist, and facilities manager. I am secular, open-minded and self-motivated. I’m partial to the Northwest (SF-Seattle). I have resources but want to add to my/our support by working. I can’t afford an expensive co-housing unit but I make living spaces better than it was before my arrival. Please help a gal find a home.

The Sahale Learning Center, part of the Goodenough Community, on the Puget Sound in Washington state, is hosting it’s next Sahale Care Weekend, September 23 – 27. Our first Sahale Care Weekend after the summer guest season will focus on taking down the big event! We’ll need lots of hands! Depending on how many people we’ve got and how it goes, there will be plenty of other projects and land tending as we start to wind down for the year. We’ll also make time to connect with each other, have fun, and enjoy the land. This will be a great opportunity for new people to get to know the community and experience Sahale. Come for as much or as little of the time as you’re able. Arrive as early as Wed. Meals and work will begin Thursday morning.
