What we do

We are two individuals, as well as partners, and are actively seeking to engage with others in the process of exploring community. We feel that interpersonal dynamics such as communication and connection are the most important and vital aspects within a higher-functioning intentional group. We seek to align ourselves with those looking to embrace relationships based on authentic connection and emotional transparency. We have some experience with these which we can share, as needed.
We are ready to begin a process of getting to know those who may already have land and are interested in seeing if we could be a fit in their community evolution or anyone else interested in exploring connection and potential collaborations involving shared interests or possible cohabitation.
One of us is a textile designer/creator and the other is a writer/generalist. We have various skills in the areas of cooking/food service, general construction, healthcare, and business/sales (along with organic gardening and this-and-that).
We identify with the concept of “bright moments” because, as we see it, embracing frequent bright moments amidst the often significant (if not unacceptable) societal, mental, and emotional challenges of the human experience, is about as good as life can be.
Our spirituality is based on enjoying music, movement, food, companionship, seizing the day, and celebrating life; living with creative intention and mindfulness; consciousness exploration and expansion; and seeing life as a journey and an ongoing opportunity for exploration, experience, and understanding.
Our primary values include proactive, open, inclusive communication; building meaningful relationships based on emotional transparency and authentic connection; a physically active and healthy lifestyle; natural, non-GMO, organic, sustainable food production; freedom to pursue our interests, passions, and joys; equality, tolerance, diversity, respect, kindness; and positive attitudes towards personal expression and sexuality.
We are dedicated to pursuing our interests and passions while living lives of creative expansion, soulful experience, and mindful celebration. We are advocates for mental health, personal growth and empowerment, self-responsibility, meaningful connection, and creating/enjoying/sharing our bright moments. We seek to join with others to experience lives rich in connection, understanding, and love.
If our posting reverberates with you in any significant way, we would enjoy hearing from you. Please send us a note and tell us about yourself and the aspects of our posting that most interests you. Connection requires effort, so if you cannot make the time and muster the effort to invest in a responsive evolving dialog (some of it by email), we’re probably not a good fit for you. We will respond in a timely fashion (typically within a day or two). So, why wait? We’re looking forward to hearing from you.

Rooms in Beautiful Location in downtown East Austin

Mountain Laurel House has upcoming room openings on August 1 and September 1 to share our house in central East Austin close to downtown. Rent is $925 per month with $75 to cover your share of the utilities and maintenance. You provide your own food. We enjoy sharing a meal at the dining table at least once a month for fun, to check in on our lives, and talk about housekeeping together. To apply, email do*************@***il.com with subject line Room at Mountain Laurel House. Request the brief application questions and we’ll provide more info and answer your questions. Mountain Laurel House is in a great location! It’s on a green cul de sac, with a wooded lot to the southwest and a green open space to the west. It’s close to the East 11th & Rosewood dining and entertainment district and right across from the Carver Library and a bus stop. We’re in walking distance to downtown Austin, the State Capitol, Huston-Tillotson University and a short bike or bus ride to the University of Texas; and, south or east of here, Lady Bird Lake and Boggy Creek hike and bike trails, park lands, swimming pools, pickleball and basketball courts. I kayak on Town Lake aka Lady Bird Lake or swim just across downtown at Deep Eddy or Barton Springs fresh-water, spring-fed swimming pools. We enjoy sharing a meal at the dining table at least once a month for fun, to check in on our lives, and plan housekeeping together. HEB is a short 5 minute drive east on 7th St. and Whole Foods is about a ten minute walk from here on 5th St. Amenities in the house include a dishwasher, utility room with a clothes washer-dryer and an optional clothesline, high-speed internet, a big dining room table for meals or activities, and a large screen TV for movie nights. The yard has beautiful native wildlife habitat gardens, veggie and herb pots, a large Cedar Elm, two Live Oaks, a fruit-bearing Fig, a Champenelle grape vine, and a Chili pequin. The cul de sac is a large park-like
