NextGEN North America has opened registration for the third annual Youth Ecovillage Summit, which will take place in Quebec, Canada from June 9-12, 2016. The event will be hosted at La Cite Ecologique, an ecovillage two hours away from Montreal and Quebec City. According to NextGEN:
“Over 30 years ago, La CitĂ© Ecologique began as a summer camp for children. The youth saw that another way of life was possible and convinced their parents to join them. Today this “Green City” is the largest ecovillage in Canada, with its own school for village youth, several thriving ecologically-minded businesses, and acres of organic food gardens. There are few better models for how real change is possible.”
The Ecovillage Summit is intended for young people between 18 and 30, but welcomes older and young participants as well, to encourage “intergenerational dialogue and collaboration.” NextGEN also has a donation option for supporting an attendee’s registration costs if you want to help someone attend the event.
The event agenda includes shared meals, workshops, and hands-on projects:
“For three days we will immerse ourselves in life at La CitĂ©, sharing meals and volunteering on the land alongside residents. At the same time we will explore the broader concept of ecovillages as a model for sustainability education. The YES curriculum follows the model of Gaia Education, covering a integrated study in the four dimensions of sustainability: the ecological, social, economic, and cultural (or worldview). We use these focus areas as the launching point for dynamic discussion, activities, and build projects that teach us how we can create a brighter future for humanity.”
The full cost of registration, which includes meals, is $100 for camping and $200 for a private room, if you register before May 5. After that, the cost will go up to $150 for camping and $250 for a room. There’s also a rideshare doc to help attendees find transportation from Montreal or Quebec.
Don’t miss out on Early Bird registration! You can RSVP to the Facebook event and check out the NextGEN Facebook page to learn more.
