Zephyr Creek Crossing is a four family community located in central Kentucky, in a beautiful, semi-rural area, on a year-round state highway halfway between Richmond (home of EKU) and Berea (home of Berea College) Kentucky, approx ten miles off I-75, 40 miles south of Lexington – close enough to commute to work and shopping but still out in the country. (Our nearest neighbors are about a city block away).
Andy and Sue B purchased a cute country cabin on five acres in 2008 with an interest in creating an intentional community in their retirement. Two additional living spaces were added and are now occupied and one more cabin is almost completed. Communal areas include a shared laundry room, workroom/storage area and organic gardens.
The community arrangement is loose and we function under a standard rental agreement – but we function more like an intentional community than an apartment. Rules are minimal – common sense and consensual. We meet together occasionally for meals but chat daily over coffee or tasking. Opportunity exists to co-own with $$ and/or sweat equity, however, ZCC is presently more of a chance to experiment in intentional living before having to make a huge commitment – but the possibility exists.
Fees vary depending on which unit – $850-1200 a month, plus residents are asked to put in a min. 4 hours per month into the development of the community. Utilities included are electricity, city water, Starlink internet, satellite TV, trash. Wireless phones connect through Starlink internet (best is Verizon).
Our long-term community goals include self-sufficiency, working together for the common good plus becoming more socially and environmentally conscious. Residents should have a regular income source and your own transportation (we occasionally share trips – but there is no public transportation).
Our organic gardens now contain strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and goji berries, a small fruit orchard and large vegetable gardens. We have had chickens in the past – and could again if a resident was inclined to do the work. We are also fenced for goats – but do not have animals (except dogs and cats) at the present time.
Occasionally we do have vacancies – if you are interested – contact Sue Peterson Blyth at sweetsue49 @gmail.com or call 859 408-1564.
Work together as neighbors – for the common good.
Sorry, We presently have no vacancies. If you are interested in being considered as a resident, you are welcome to visit and tour our community – and if you like what you see – we will have you complete an application and meet the other community members before a final decision is reached.
Contact Sue Peterson at sw********@***il.com for an appointment. Overnight guests unfortunately can not normally be accommodated.
