What we do

We are a six-bedroom intentional community (spanning both units of a two-unit building) in the Central Square neighborhood of Cambridge, MA. Our values including cooking and sharing meals together, playing games together, building community through hosting events, and sharing with each other the things that delight us in life!
We have a shared mostly vegetarian food system (with limited purchases of sustainable seafood), although housemates may choose to individually purchase meat or other food items. Every housemate cooks one meal per month for the house, and additional cooking and community-building efforts are built into the chores system.
We occupy both units of a two-unit building on a relatively quiet street near Central Square and MIT. We have two main common spaces on the first floor, including ample kitchen space, with six bedrooms distributed across the second and third floors. With six bathrooms, the house has a luxurious bathroom-to-resident ratio! The house was renovated in 2010 and has built-in heat and air conditioning, tankless water heaters, and two sets of in-unit laundry machines. We also have ample bike storage in an enclosed back porch, driveway parking spots, and a spacious backyard that has hosted a container garden, potlucks, and outdoor movies. We have interest in converting much of the lawn to native vegetation, or putting it to other uses that benefit the household and the broader community.

Our Mission

We aspire to create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive community, and we value diversity along many axes, including race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, gender expression, class, education, ability, religion, age, and occupation. We make most decisions by consensus, including decisions about who lives in the house and how we share time and resources as a household.

Worktrade Opportunities on Big Island Hawaii

We are continuing our work-trade program at Bridge Hawaii for the right people on this beautiful 86-acre land located along the Hāmākua Coast. Ideally, we want to host those individuals who can help with the garden and who can support with build projects for up to a 3 month stay. This work-trade would include lodging, food staples, community kitchen, running hot water showers, off-grid electricity, and laundry. There is access to high speed wi-fi. We often have a car that can be reserved. We also have full bar signal strength with Verizon cellphone service. We have about 2 acres of permaculture garden that needs to be cared for including; weeding, planting, picking up mulch, some tree trimming, ect. We are currently in a building stage on the land. We have a few current grant projects we are working on and some build projects that are underway. We are an intentional community with about 8 permanent residents. There are rescue dairy cows, mini cows, mini donkeys, horses, a donkey, cats, dogs, and active bee hives. We are a drug and alcohol “free” space. A glass of wine or beer with dinner is fine, but absolutely no day drinking or parties. We have a meditation temple and many waterfall pools that are wonderful for swimming. Close to some of the nicest beaches on island. We have snorkeling gear and a kayak. Since this is an animal sanctuary, we limit the consumption of meat on the land. Fish, eggs, honey, and dairy are fine. Let me know if you’re interested by sending an email or text for our application. Maomi (801) 623-0738 ma***@*****************ii.com
