We are a group of families and individuals on a journey to develop co-housing on a certified organic farm in Powell River, BC – Tla’amin traditional territory. We share an interest in living lightly on the land, building sustainable housing, and growing our own food. We are an equity cooperative. We have one original farm house residence and 6 newly constructed homes. There are 2 single family homes and two sets of duplexes. In total there are 7 households living on the property. We are designing and building ecological housing, community facilities and agricultural opportunities for a diverse group of people in a beautiful semi-rural setting within Powell River/Tla’amin Nation traditional territory.
The first step in the membership process is requesting an Information Package and completing and sending back to us a “New Member Application.”

After receiving your completed application, we send you some materials to review and you are invited to come and observe 1 meeting. Following that observation period we set up a time for an interview with you. After the interview, candidates attend a minimum of 3 meetings or community events before being considered for full membership.
The overall process can be completed in 2-3 months. We would be happy to provide you with more details about our new member policy and process at your request. Applicants from outside of the Powell River region can participate from a distance but are expected to make at least one visit to the community prior to being approved for membership.

The need for a system of governance based on inclusiveness and cooperation led us toward Sociocracy in the early stages. This socially responsible method of organizing effective, harmonious and collaborative organizations allows us to share power as equals and offers an efficient way to communicate, run meetings and make decisions.
Sociocracy is based on a few key principles such as decision making and elections by consent, speaking in rounds, and a network of operational circles linked back to the general circle. These principles and this system of governance in embedded in the legal documents that govern us.

The right to occupy a unit of housing is sold to a new member from the exiting member. The fair market value is the basis for the sale price of the unit of housing.
