Fellow + Kin will be a place for friends, family, and guests who will hopefully become friends too.
Here we will become stewards, caring for the Land with love – what we pour in will pay us well. Grassy clearings become native plant hotspots and food forests will flourish. We dream of becoming as self-sustaining as possible when it comes to food and so vegan farming will be a top priority once Land is secured.
I am beginning a permaculture design course shortly and would love to collaborate on gardening/food forest plans – as food is a human right, I would love to offer a community garden to share with non-residents and maintain a food pantry. Homegrown crops, herbs, teas, florals, and seeds may also provide additional income.
Fellow + Kin will be home to non-human animals as well; a not for profit farmed-Animal sanctuary for those in need. Like us, Animals deserve access to their basic rights. With previous experience managing equine barns (equine assisted therapy, boarding, and training barns), working in small Animal shelter/rescue and as a foster for Horses, Dog and Horse training, and farm management (multi-species), I would love to offer in-person education programs as a means of activism, advocacy, and supporting F+K as a sanctuary and home to human and non-human animals.
In the meantime as we build safe, species-appropriate enclosures F+K will house three equines and two dogs (and us, their two guardians), welcoming others as space and resources allow. Separate housing will be required to ensure safety of inside animals.
F+K has been a figment for a few years, but it’s not something we can do on our own – so now we’re on the lookout for people who feel drawn, inspired, and aligned to these ideas. We are currently seeking Land in western NC (within ~1hr from Asheville) to evolve and grow into and would love to find founding collaborators to co-create with.
A web of connected individuals, diverse in species and identities – the Human residents collaborate and work together to best steward and support both the Land, and the Animals whom we are lucky to cohabitate with. Community members will feel welcomed and supported in sharing their opinions, grievances, skills, and self, all voices are to be heard and held safely. Food sovereignty will be a major priority alongside providing a safe place for farmed Animals to live out the best of their days.
