The Seeds Collective and “MiCom” is envisioned to be an experimental community, a living laboratory, for sustainable community building that incorporates solutions for housing, power, water, food, commerce, education, and social tech/value transformation. The community is located in the rural horse community on the eastern edge of Aiken County in South Carolina. The project centers around a 4.25-acre homestead site that includes a fully functioning commercial kitchen and cafe, onsite grid power, and a commercial well. The property is designed to allow multiple income streams associated with local sustainable food ventures and sustainable living.
The Seeds Collective/Micro Community “MiCom” is searching for the following 3 core members: 1) ServSafe certified chef with specific experience in restaurant management, farm to table food preparation, recipe creation; 2) Farmer with proven experience in sub-acreage, micro and urban farming techniques, committed to organic food production, high tunnel production and aquaponics food production 3) Event planner with experience working with diverse populations and event promotions.
I anticipate that initially, all MiCom members will work as part of the Collective, but initially, some may work off-site or have their own micro-enterprises that can be managed on-site. In addition, we anticipate that initially there may be members that do not live within the MiCom, but the eventual goal will be that all members to live within the MiCom.
We strongly hold that the Seeds Collective and MiCom will be a living laboratory that never fully completes or realizes our ideals because they will be continually evolving. New ideas and technology will challenge us to continuously implement new and challenging techniques and training programs within the Collective and the MiCom. Because we hold this true, we believe the Collective and MiCom will be a place for continued learning, research, and the resulting growth.
