Communities ConferenceThis year’s Communities Conference is just around the Corner! Will you join us this Labor Day weekend (September 2nd-5th) for three days of workshops, story swapping, shared meals and inter-community solidarity? The program this year has an abundance to offer, featuring presentations, dance parties, discussion panels, introductions to the diversity of attending communities, and “open space” time for participants to host workshops and discussions on the topics that matter to them most.

Workshops approved for 2016.

We’ve got an exciting lineup this year. Here’s a rundown of some of the workshops we’ve approved so far. We’ll have a workshop by last year’s Monday program keynote Beth Raps on using community organizing principles for organizing intentional communities. Anton Marks, general secretary for the International Communities Desk, will present on the kibbutz movement in Israel, with a focus on the urban kibbutz movement that has developed over the last 30 years. Representatives from the School of Living will give a workshop on forming Community Land Trusts. And Sarah Taub from the Center For New Culture will guide participants through a workshop called Boundaries: Speaking Truth, Meeting Needs, and Releasing Attachments.

WorkshopsOther workshop topics and titles include:

  • The use of mutual credit systems and sociocracy to build community

  • A panel discussion with the Federation of Egalitarian Communities

  • Consensus 201

  • The role of intentional communities in the larger cooperative movement

  • Culture Hacking 101

Discounts and work exchange.

It’s important to us to that the conference be financially accessible to people who are excited to come. While we keep the prices for the conference as low as possible, we understand that the amount we ask is still too high for some.

Work exchange is available. Click here for more info and to apply.
