Knowledgebase > Permaculture

From ICWiki

Permaculture is a system of design and agriculture that can be very useful in designing the physical structures on a community including buildings, gardens, agriculture, flows of people, etc. It’s roots are in designing a system of agriculture that tries to mimic natural systems. It is often concerned with the relationship between various objects and/or various processes. It also focuses on flows (eg water, wind, sunlight, pedestrian traffic, etc.) and how they relate to design.

Many intentional communities have embraced permaculture as part of their core values and practices. While some communities may use permaculture techniques in food production, it can be more widely used as a design tool or philosophy for any community regardless of whether food production plays a central role. Some communities also offer permaculture classes and workshops.
