DVD, 2011, 62 minutes

Seeking The Good Life In America is a candid chronicle of Joy Truskowski’s travels to three well-established intentional communities in Virginia: Light Morning, Twin Oaks and Acorn. With her curious lens, numerous interviews and personable narrating, Joy really conveys how charming and at times challenging living in community can be.

Earnest in its search for something better than what mainstream culture has to offer, Seeking the Good Life offers a personal and contemporary perspective on alternative culture. The filmmaker/traveler/narrator, Joy Truskowski, explores how these communities participate in food production and use renewable energy, how income is made and shared, as well as social dynamics and decision-making.

This film is unpretentious and ingenious all the while having quality images and skillful filming. You’ll find yourself wishing Joy had kept the camera going and went off to explore other communities beyond Virginia.
