One with choice\, community\, socializing\, sprinkled with fun? Or would it tell the story of someone who felt they didn’t have any choices\, lacked community\, and felt isolated? You have the power to enhance your life and your journey starts right here. \n \nIntentional communities are well-positioned to create micro-cultures that address what is lacking in the wider culture. Your position as a senior demands respect\, and living in community gives you the opportunity to have a voice and create a more well-balanced ecosystem. When it comes to seeing the positive aspects of Elderhood\, Intentional Community offers a unique opportunity to have your needs met while allowing you the freedom to live your life as you choose. How do you envision your future as you age in community? What are the ways you want to be supported? \n \nIn the Reimagining Your Senior Years in Community workshop\, we’ll take a closer look at the ways in which living in community can be an opportunity to thrive in your third phase of life\, not just survive. We’ll discover just how many types of communities are out there that can suit your specific needs and desires. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nlearn how to embrace elderhood\ndiscover how intentional community can support a great life for seniors\nexamine options for seniors in community living as well as the cost to join a community\nexplore the differences between intergenerational and senior communities \n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaird Schaub\n \nLaird’s specialty is up-tempo inclusive meetings that engage the full range of human input\, teaching groups to work creatively with conflict and diversity—all the while being ruthless about capturing as much product as possible. SUMMARY:Intro to Consensus
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Consensus \nThursday\, July 20\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 3:00-5:00pm\nMountain: 4:00-6:00pm\nCentral: 5:00-7:00pm\nEastern: 6:00-8:00pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin intentional community educator Yana Ludwig for an Intro to Consensus to learn how to reach highly committed agreements within your group. \n\nAbout the event\n \nThe core of consensus is the belief that everyone has a piece of the truth. Nice theory\, right? But putting that into practice and creating a culture that supports consensus going well is not a simple thing. \nThe Intro to Consensus workshop focuses on the attitudes and cultural frameworks that make consensus—and really any participatory decision-making—a positive experience instead of a gauntlet. The lessons are applicable for anyone wanting to have better decision-making\, regardless of your group’s official decision-making processes\, and even with no group buy-in to use consensus. \n \nThis workshop is a basic training for groups using consensus\, but will also aid individuals in building skills to better relate to their cooperative and social change groups\, regardless of the formal decision-making process they follow.  \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nLearn what consensus is…and what it isn’t\nUnderstand the importance of culture and what cooperative culture means\nUnderstand the appropriate use for blocking and how to test for legitimate blocks\nGet a framework for implementing consensus with the best chance to work well\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYana Ludwig\n \nYana served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Intentional Community for over a decade. Developed by Gerard Endenburg in the Netherlands\, Sociocracy is an organizational model based on equivalence\, efficiency\, and transparency. With decisions made through consent and feedback loops\, everyone feels involved and supported in the process.  \n \nThis playful two-hour workshop will introduce you to Sociocracy – providing basic knowledge about its principles so you can inspire others within your group or organization to make decisions cooperatively. \n \nDuring this workshop\, you will:\n\nunderstand how to adapt the Sociocracy framework to the specific needs of your group or organization. \nlearn how to lead efficient meetings \nlearn to embrace errors as opportunities for growth. \nlearn to express personal opinions and welcome other voices\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenny Carraro\n \nGenny is a trainer\, counsellor\, consultant\, facilitator and social activist born in Italy. She works with communities\, organizations and individuals to bring clarity\, ease and efficiency\, with a dose of energy\, straight-talk and humor. \nAt an early age\, Genny lost her sight\, and this life-changing event taught her lessons that shape who she is and how she works. She believes that collaboration is the key to survival and growth\, and that healthy and trusting relationships are the foundation of our life experience. She is strongly attuned to subtle shifts in energy\, to what is left unsaid and what needs to be expressed for a group to move forward. These are gifts that she brings to her facilitation. \nGenny has worked on several educational projects to develop methodologies and approaches to transmit sustainability concepts. She managed and coordinated the European Ecovillage Network\, co-founded ECOLISE\, a European network for locally lead climate change and sustainability initiatives\, co-founded and coordinated the Italian Processwork school\, and has been a part of the creating of CLIPS Europe and CLIPS Italia\, a community incubator program for sustainable initiatives. Genny lives in and coordinates an intentional community where they experiment with sustainability from an eco-social point of view.Learn more about Genny and her work here. \n \n\n\n\nLocation\n \nYou’ll get the Zoom link after you register in your confirmation email. Join us to learn what your Fight Language is and how you’ve been speaking it in protective and productive ways. \nThe Fight Languages: How you fight with yourself and others workshop will give you a new depth of information to better understand yourself and others in conflict and resolution. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach\, but instead breaks down each Fight Language to honor the unique path each takes through conflict. \nDuring this workshop you will learn:\n\nwhat the Fight Languages are\nhow to recognize each and speak them in a conflict\nhow to connect with each Fight Language\nrecognize how you are the antagonist you fight with the most\nhow to understand and connect with yourself\, and everyone else\, in disagreements and conflict\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLena Morgan\n \nLena began her career of connecting people back to themselves in the place where it all begins. Working as a midwife for over a decade she had the honor of walking alongside women as they discovered their innate power and ability. Pulling from this wisdom\, she untangled the process of rebirth after burnout\, death\, and divorce left her unrecognizable to herself. Coaching others through the same self discovery led to the creation of the Fight Languages\, a new way to articulate the protective and productive ways we fight with ourselves and others. Her work is helping individuals\, partnerships\, organizations\, and businesses understand themselves and others better\, and find more connection. SUMMARY:Designing Equitable and Accountable Communities
DESCRIPTION:Designing Equitable and Accountable Communities \nTuesday\, June 13\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 11:00am-12:30pm\nMountain: 12:00-1:30pm\nCentral: 1:00-2:30pm\nEastern: 2:00-3:30pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin Spring Up’s Leander and Stas Phoenix for an interactive workshop on how you can design equitable and accountable community. \n\nAbout the event\n \nCommunity accountability is about translating values into practice\, practicing generative conflict\, preventing and responding to harm without centering liability or the state\, and responding to patterns of harm and conflict through emergent and adaptive organizational strategy. Spring Up’s frameworks of accountability and the Organizational Accountability Wheel are informed by grassroots transformative justice and community accountability practice\, and draw on the wisdom of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel\, as expressed by the People of Standing Rock / Lakota and Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory. \n \nThe Designing Equitable and Accountable Communities workshop revolves around the central question\, “What does it mean to practice equity and accountability as an individual\, a leader\, and–especially–within community?” This workshop reframes traditional diversity\, equity and inclusion (DEI) frameworks and practices\, standard professional best practices\, and accountability in an institutional setting to create a shared understanding of Community Accountability. \n \nThis workshop is designed for leaders who want to interrogate their community’s accountability practices and identify how they can increase equity\, and to be an easily digestible introduction to some of these ideas\, with the ability to be adapted to fit your own organizations and communities. \n \nDuring this workshop\, you’ll learn:\n\na holistic way to think of your strengths and growth areas as a community\na self-auditing tool to hold conversations with your community about trust and accountability\nhow to grow through equity\, accountability\, and conflict patterns you have struggled with\nhow to discern between personal\, community\, and organizational accountability\n\n\nAbout your presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeander & Stas S.R. Phoenix\n \nLeander (they/he) and Stas (they/them) founded Spring Up in 2013-2014 to build a community of practice embodying consent and liberation within our relationships\, creative practices\, and daily lives. \n \nFor 10 years\, Spring Up has used fiction\, art\, role play\, and community education to popularize the skills and frameworks necessary to be free together at bluelight academy of the liberatory arts. They have grown into a collective of 11 creatives\, care workers\, liberatory educators\, transformative justice practitioners\, and an alumni community of over 1500 people. \n \nSpring Up hosts liberatory learning spaces through online classes\, print materials and curriculum\, retreats\, and coaching. They are a worker coop\, providing and receiving resources and support in reciprocal and accountable exchange with our community. The community has a strong focus on working together\, environmental sustainability\, and healthy living. The 5-acre village will include 32 privately owned detached 2- and 3-bedroom homes. Community features include a shared multiuse common house\, community workshop\, greenhouse\, organic garden\, orchard\, walking paths\, and protected woodland. Construction starts June 2023. \nLearn More \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCambridge Cohousing\n \nWe are a multigenerational community of 41 households in Cambridge MA. We are a group of people of diverse ages\, backgrounds\, abilities\, professions\, and lifestyles. We are committed to creating a neighborly and cooperative community in which we know and care about one another. Children can play safely\, surrounded by neighbors\, and residents know that caring friends are close by. We are committed to the vitality\, convenience\, and diversity that is Cambridge. \n \nLearn More \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVila Puri Cohousing\n \nOur cohousing began to form almost 5 years ago\, from a lecture that took place in Rio de Janeiro. A small group got excited and began to meet every 15 days\, studying the book “The Senior Cohousing Handbook”\, by Charles Durrett. After a year\, we made a larger presentation for 60 people\, with the aim of having more fans. Many entered and many left. During the pandemic\, we started to meet via Zoom. Our project wants to build 20 houses\, plus a central house. We constituted an Association in 2021 with a statute to follow the law. We adopted the NVC and the sociocracy in our group. In 2022\, we bought a beautiful piece of land in the mountains\, 120 km from Rio de Janeiro. The Association will own the houses and the members will have dues. We are in the architectural design phase. We still need 8 more members. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n \nYou should attend the Virtual Tour of Intentional Communities if you want to: \n\nvisit an intentional community\njoin an intentional community\nlearn more about intentional community in general\n\n\nLocation\n \nYou’ll get the Zoom link after you register in your confirmation email. It offers an unprecedented perspective to creating intentional community that speaks directly to the reader who wants collective answers and who sees the deep benefit of community living as a key piece to addressing systemic issues. \nDuring this interview\, Yana will share some of her wisdom and perspective from 25 years of intentional community experience as well as many years of training founders in starting intentional community. \n \nAre you in the Portland\, Oregon area? SUMMARY:Transformative Justice and Harm in Community
DESCRIPTION:Transformative Justice and Harm in Community \nMonday\, May 15\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 11:00am-12:30pm\nMountain: 12:00-1:30pm\nCentral: 1:00-2:30pm\nEastern: 2:00-3:30pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin Spring Up’s Leander and Stas Phoenix for an interactive workshop on how you can address transformative justice and harm in community. \n\nAbout the event\n \nTransformative Justice (TJ) is both a philosophy of care and collective liberation\, as well as a collection of practices exploring how we respond to violence and harm within ourselves and our communities. But what does that all mean\, really? And how can we begin to implement and embody the ideas and practices of Transformative Justice in our everyday lives? Words and phrases like “community care\,” “generative conflict\,” and “accountability” all sound great\, but what do they really look like in our lives and communities? \n \nThese are the questions we will tackle with you in our interactive Transformative Justice and Harm in Community workshop. During these 90 minutes we will dive into concepts like accountability and how we can practice on a small scale daily\, how to plan for safety and care\, and informed consent. We will draw on case studies and real world experiences supporting communities through conflict\, restorative processes\, and designing systems to enable transparency and accountability. There will also be space to share situations you are struggling to resolve and get feedback from the presenters and other participants. \n \nDuring this workshop\, you’ll learn:\n\nthe philosophy and roots of Transformative Justice\nsmall ways to identify and intervene in the root causes of conflict\nhow to embrace tensions and conflict as a strength\nhow being conflict-forward can lead to better racial and gender equity\n\n\nAbout your presenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeander & Stas S.R. SUMMARY:Reclaiming Death & Dying in Community
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming Death & Dying in Community \nMonday\, May 1st & Tuesday\, May 2nd \n\nPacific: 9-11am \nMountain: 10am-12pm\nCentral: 11am-1pm\nEastern: 12-2pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin end-of-life educator Lee Warren for a 2-part exploration of end of life literacy\, death positivity\, and the conscious dying movement. \n\nAbout the event\n \nPart 1: Befriending Death \nContemplating death\, ours and others\, is a deeply empowering practice that allows us to live more fully in the present and gives us access to an immense gratitude for the miracle of our own existence. There is no other mechanism quite as powerful in bringing us face to face with profound awe. Join Lee as she shares her recipe for internal and external processes that help us befriend death. External processes include an overview of the spectrum of end of life paperwork and preparations and after death options. Internal processes include discussions on how to nourish the components of our infinite selves in order to access and enhance our sacred journey with death and come to know that we already have everything we need for a positive and conscious death experience. We’ll also discuss how to create a death literate community wherever you live. \n \nThis workshop is for folks at all stages of age and health. Intentionally preparing for death is always time well spent and increases the likelihood of having a good death. Paradoxically and unsurprisingly\, these principles and practices lead to a more ecstatic life. Expect educational components\, discussion\, contemplation exercises\, real-life examples\, resources\, as well as active encouragement for practical next steps. \n \nPart 2: The Art & Practice of Community Based Death & Dying \nAs a member of Earthaven Ecovillage\, Lee Warren has been part of a team of folks gifted with the sacred opportunity to steward the death and dying process of many beloved community members. The collective sense of reverence\, connection\, and harmony that arose from these experiences offered a profound deepening of relationships and the creation of community-wide systems dedicated to this end of life process. For all involved\, from the closest death tenders to the funeral attendees\, these experiences have been life changing and heart opening. \n \nDiscover how this group navigates the dying process\, tends to the dead\, designs home funerals and home burials\, supports the expression of grief\, and cares for the caregivers. These beautifully emergent practices have been holistically learned through their humble service and a desire to reclaim the art of caring for our own at death. Specifically\, they garnered this wisdom through the grace of the dying\, the synergy of many traditions\, really good mentors\, and their own innate evolutionary intuition. We’ll discuss death preparedness\, death literacy\, and a whole new attitude of death philosophies that are possible within the context of community. Discover your own doorway to profound mysticism and magic as you embrace all that community-based end of life has to offer. \n \nDuring these workshops you will:\n\nEnjoy death related stories from an emerging ecovillage\nAdapt end of life systems to your own life and community\nInquire into the resources already at hand in your group\nIncorporate emergent death philosophies into your worldview\nUnderstand the components of death literacy\nExplore death preparedness for self and groups\nGenerate enthusiasm for having death based conversations\nImplement small or large changes into your approach to death\nDevelop plans for more death positivity in your world\nExperiment with new ways of thinking about death\nReflect on what traditions are at play in your community\nExperience inspiration and motivation to discuss death preparedness\nChoose systems that support death preparedness\nCelebrate your inner wisdom\, insight\, and guidance\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLee Warren\n \nLee is a devoted community builder. She is delighted by community of all kinds\, shapes\, sizes\, and intentions. Her life purpose is to provide leadership in the building of community in accessible\, natural\, and blissful ways. \n \nTo that end\, she is committed to reweaving the cosmologies as well as regenerating the cultural wisdom that allows for us ALL to “return to the village.” The village is a metaphor for the collaborative approach to life that will repair historical damage and create a sense of coherence and unity. Cultural repair looks like conscious relating to self\, to land\, to dying\, to living\, and to other. As we return to the village\, we create cohesive\, supportive\, inclusive\, and life-giving systems that tend to the whole\, most especially to the “more than human world”. \nIn the midst of this deep reverence\, we will come to see the divine in all things. All aspects of life are sacred opportunities for presence and soulful engagement. sustainable economics\, conscious dying\, and community of all kinds. \n \nLearn more about Lee and her work here. \n \n\n\n\nLocation\n \nYou’ll get the Zoom link after you register in your confirmation email.
