SUMMARY:Integrating Seniors into Community Life
DESCRIPTION:Integrating Seniors into Community Life \nWednesday\, August 16\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 8:00-10:00am\nMountain: 9:00-11:00am\nCentral: 10:00am-12:00pm\nEastern: 11:00am-1:00pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin longtime communitarian Laird Schaub to explore the ways seniors can contribute and how to best integrate them into community life. \n\nAbout the event\n \nAll community members—seniors included—are encouraged to contribute volunteer labor to the maintenance and well-being of the community. That said\, there can be anxiety (among both seniors and non-seniors) about whether seniors will be able to pull their weight. \n \nBut\, not all labor has to involve work that requires a strong back or long hours\, like mowing the lawn or mopping the common house floor. Other types of labor can be through governance and leadership\, like team management\, meeting facilitation\, and even website maintenance. Even if you live in a senior community\, and physical tasks are the most challenging to accomplish\, you still have options\, like paying for services to help in those areas. \n \nThough it will vary by community\, most groups honor contributions in all arenas. The important thing is that you discuss the terms of your participation and how your community can expect you to contribute\, while considering safety and cognitive decline issues at the same time. There is the potential fear of losing autonomy\, disappointing your neighbors\, or wanting to serve in familiar ways when it is no longer feasible\, but building relationships in community can help to alleviate some of these stressors and give you the support you need. \n \nIn the Integrating Seniors into Community Life workshop\, we will tackle how to lay the ground rules for your participation in community tasks as well as how to establish strong relationships with others to build your social capital. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nlearn how to start having conversations with your community about integrating seniors\nexplore safety and cognitive decline considerations for your community\nconsider the synergy of intergenerational populations and the affect on your community\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaird Schaub\n \nLaird’s specialty is up-tempo inclusive meetings that engage the full range of human input\, teaching groups to work creatively with conflict and diversity—all the while being ruthless about capturing as much product as possible. SUMMARY:Creating Support Teams for Elders in Community
DESCRIPTION:Creating Support Teams for Elders in Community \nWednesday\, August 23\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 8:00-10:00am\nMountain: 9:00-11:00am\nCentral: 10:00am-12:00pm\nEastern: 11:00am-1:00pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin communitarian Laird Schaub to learn how to address and meet needs through the creation of support teams for elders in community. \n\nAbout the event\n \nNot everyone will be able to manage their own requests for help. Support teams are recommended to help seniors and other members that struggle to get their basic needs met. These teams work discreetly to make it easier for members to disclose needs and get them filled. \n \nOnce engaged\, the Support Team will sit down with the household and develop an accurate picture of the needs\, breaking down what is being requested into specific\, well-defined tasks. This becomes especially manageable when strong relationships between households are created. It’s essential to build your social capital so that when asking for help\, you are met in the middle. Having a Support Team does not necessarily mean you are promised aid\, but it does mean a community supported effort will be made to assist households get the word out about their situation and their specific needs. \n \nWe all need help sometimes\, and living in community can make this stressor such a relief when handled responsibly. In the Creating Support Teams for Elders in Community workshop\, you will learn how to develop the selection process in creating a support team and how to choose which members will be most appropriate to fill the positions. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nunderstand the importance of creating a care team for seniors\nlearn how to balance transparency and discretion within the care team\nlearn how to best select support team members\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaird Schaub\n \nLaird’s specialty is up-tempo inclusive meetings that engage the full range of human input\, teaching groups to work creatively with conflict and diversity—all the while being ruthless about capturing as much product as possible. SUMMARY:Reclaiming Death and Dying in Community
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming Death & Dying in Community \nWednesday\, September 13 & Thursday\, September 14\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 12-2pm \nMountain: 1-3pm\nCentral: 2-4pm\nEastern: 3-5pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin end-of-life educator Lee Warren for a 2-part exploration of end of life literacy\, death positivity\, and the conscious dying movement. \n\nAbout the event\n \nPart 1: Befriending Death\nContemplating death\, ours and others\, is a deeply empowering practice that allows us to live more fully in the present and gives us access to an immense gratitude for the miracle of our own existence. There is no other mechanism quite as powerful in bringing us face to face with profound awe. Join Lee as she shares her recipe for internal and external processes that help us befriend death. External processes include an overview of the spectrum of end of life paperwork and preparations and after death options. Internal processes include discussions on how to nourish the components of our infinite selves in order to access and enhance our sacred journey with death and come to know that we already have everything we need for a positive and conscious death experience. We’ll also discuss how to create a death literate community wherever you live. \n \nReclaiming Death and Dying in Community is for folks at all stages of age and health. Intentionally preparing for death is always time well spent and increases the likelihood of having a good death. Paradoxically and unsurprisingly\, these principles and practices lead to a more ecstatic life. Expect educational components\, discussion\, contemplation exercises\, real-life examples\, resources\, as well as active encouragement for practical next steps. \n \nPart 2: The Art & Practice of Community Based Death & Dying\nAs a member of Earthaven Ecovillage\, Lee Warren has been part of a team of folks gifted with the sacred opportunity to steward the death and dying process of many beloved community members. The collective sense of reverence\, connection\, and harmony that arose from these experiences offered a profound deepening of relationships and the creation of community-wide systems dedicated to this end of life process. For all involved\, from the closest death tenders to the funeral attendees\, these experiences have been life changing and heart opening. \n \nDiscover how this group navigates the dying process\, tends to the dead\, designs home funerals and home burials\, supports the expression of grief\, and cares for the caregivers. These beautifully emergent practices have been holistically learned through their humble service and a desire to reclaim the art of caring for our own at death. Specifically\, they garnered this wisdom through the grace of the dying\, the synergy of many traditions\, really good mentors\, and their own innate evolutionary intuition. We’ll discuss death preparedness\, death literacy\, and a whole new attitude of death philosophies that are possible within the context of community. Discover your own doorway to profound mysticism and magic as you embrace all that community-based end of life has to offer. \n \nDuring Reclaiming Death and Dying in Community you will:\n\nEnjoy death related stories from an emerging ecovillage\nAdapt end of life systems to your own life and community\nInquire into the resources already at hand in your group\nIncorporate emergent death philosophies into your worldview\nUnderstand the components of death literacy\nExplore death preparedness for self and groups\nGenerate enthusiasm for having death based conversations\nImplement small or large changes into your approach to death\nDevelop plans for more death positivity in your world\nExperiment with new ways of thinking about death\nReflect on what traditions are at play in your community\nExperience inspiration and motivation to discuss death preparedness\nChoose systems that support death preparedness\nCelebrate your inner wisdom\, insight\, and guidance\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLee Warren\n \nLee is a devoted community builder. She is delighted by community of all kinds\, shapes\, sizes\, and intentions. Her life purpose is to provide leadership in the building of community in accessible\, natural\, and blissful ways. \n \nTo that end\, she is committed to reweaving the cosmologies as well as regenerating the cultural wisdom that allows for us ALL to “return to the village.” The village is a metaphor for the collaborative approach to life that will repair historical damage and create a sense of coherence and unity. Cultural repair looks like conscious relating to self\, to land\, to dying\, to living\, and to other. As we return to the village\, we create cohesive\, supportive\, inclusive\, and life-giving systems that tend to the whole\, most especially to the “more than human world”. \nIn the midst of this deep reverence\, we will come to see the divine in all things. All aspects of life are sacred opportunities for presence and soulful engagement. sustainable economics\, conscious dying\, and community of all kinds. \n \nLearn more about Lee and her work here. \n \n\n\n\nLocation\n \nYou’ll get the Zoom link after you register in your confirmation email. SUMMARY:The Joys and Challenges of Children in Community

SUMMARY:Co-Parenting in Community
DESCRIPTION:Co-Parenting in Community \nWednesday\, September 27\, 2023 \n\nPacific: 9:00-11:00am\nMountain: 10:00am-12:00pm\nCentral: 11:00am-1:00pm\nEastern: 12:00-2:00pm\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nJoin family therapist\, social architect and communitarian Jessica Plancich Shinners to explore co-parenting in community. \n\nAbout the event\n \nParenting styles have changed dramatically over the course of history. Many of the things that were important 50\, 100\, even 1\,000 years ago have evolved to be very different from what our children need today. With this in mind\, it seems everyone has the “right” way to raise their child. What happens when we intersect multiple parenting styles that vary in skills\, disciplines\, and educational preferences? \n \nYou get the reality of raising children in community. Where there are these challenges\, you find opportunities for growth. You can resolve co-parenting conflict and find peace amongst so many differing views of raising a child with good communication and the right tools to succeed. Taking the weight off of being the sole person responsible for every single idea and the way to implement it is monumental. What you share with your community could be of great value\, and who knows\, you may just pick up something along the way. \n \nJoin us for the Co-Parenting in Community workshop to discover how you can share the responsibility of raising children and make the work of being a co-parent a deeply spiritual and fulfilling practice. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nexplore parenting styles and family dynamics\ndiscover tools for finding parental intersectionality\nlearn how to resolve co-parenting conflict\nlearn how to navigate taboo topics\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJessica Plancich Shinners\n \nWith a Master’s in clinical psychology\, a doctorate in Organizational Leadership (Ed.D. Where do we begin when deciding which form of education they will receive? The options seem endless\, and the pressure to choose the right path for your child can be immense. From conventional schooling\, to community private schooling\, to microschools\, to Self-Directed Education — you want to be sure you are choosing the right option for the benefit of your child and your community. \n \nHow your community plays a role in that decision is also a factor. What kinds of conversations do you need to have with your community? Does your community have the capacity for on-site education? Do all of the kids participate in the same kind of schooling? What about the wide spectrum of learning needs? Each community is different and has its own approach for educating their children. \n \nJoin us for this workshop to learn how to navigate through all of the educational options that are available to you and come to a decision that feels right for you and your community. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nexplore your options for educating children in a community context\nunderstand the difference between Community private school vs Private and Co-op homeschooling/unschooling vs Microschools or ALCs\nlearn how to plan for the spectrum of learning needs\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJanne Campbell\n \nJanne is passionate about creating a world that works for all\, including children. As an unschooling mother of two\, devoted student of conscious parenting and nonviolent communication\, she serves the Great Turning by sharing what she knows about raising children in joy\, respect and connection. She is particularly drawn to supporting inquiry around the delicate ecosystem of family and children within the context of intentional community. When she isn’t making snacks and holding space for big feelings\, she’s fermenting\, baking\, cobbing\, foraging\, growing or skinning something and trying to start a (un)school. But\, how do we know when we’re ready? Understanding the values of the community and the agreements you’ve made are paramount in making this critical decision for your community. \n \nLooking at the capacity of your community and their willingness to support families will be an important factor to consider when planning for children in community. What is the expectation around co-holding the needs of families and children? How do children fit into community needs and goals? Are there cultural nuances to consider as well? How about welcoming children with higher support needs? For the safety and security of both the families and the community as a whole\, it’s necessary to answer these questions and lay the groundwork for introducing children to the community. \n \nJoin us for this 2-hour workshop to learn how to navigate the conversations that are needed when planning for children in community to ensure the happiness and comfort of everyone involved. \n \nIn this workshop\, you’ll:\n\nexplore issues of safety\, comfort and addressing harm\ngain a clear picture of the intersectionality of cultural nuances\, community values and agreements\nlearn how to be welcoming of children with higher support needs\n\n\nAbout your presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJanne Campbell\n \nJanne is passionate about creating a world that works for all\, including children.
