The building was originally built in 1803. Since being given to Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1957\, the building has become a center for the Quaker community and others in the Boston area. 21 Residents (of many faith and non-faith traditions) live at the house for up to four years. We create community through house dinners cooked by our kitchen manager\, sharing chores and community-building responsibilities\, and two house meetings a month.  \nLearn More \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAllWays Intentional Community\n \nAllWays is a developing intentional community in the Athens\, GA Area with the focus to provide religious infrastructure and support to Pagans. On October 16\, 2020\, we were able to purchase\, through the AllWays Lands and Grounds Association LLC\, a tract of property\, totaling nearly 49 acres\, north of Vincent Drive in Northwest Clarke County.  We plan to provide outdoor\, and eventually\, indoor\, spaces for Pagans\, and others\, to use in spiritual or religious practice. We plan that these areas be supported and maintained by an on-site\, planned community. The Bruderhof movement includes communities in the United States\, the United Kingdom\, Germany\, Austria\, Paraguay\, Australia\, and South Korea. We are creating a residential eco-village by collectively purchasing and developing land that provides sustainable housing\, community facilities\, agricultural potential and a beautiful setting for a diverse group of families. \nLearn More \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTerra Frutis\n \nTerra Frutis is a vegan intentional community in southeast Ecuador situated where the Andes mountains meet the Amazon rainforest. Together we are creating a permaculture food forest in former cow pasture. We do this to grow food for ourselves\, for the community around us\, and we hope to inspire other permaculture\, reforestation and food sovereignty projects big and small. We govern our community with consensus oriented decision making\, and resolve conflicts using non-violent communication. We have options for rent\, work exchange\, and plots of land for sale that can be built on. This workshop will cover some of the legal basics for starting or sustaining and intentional community. We will begin by a discussion and demonstration of disconnects – common habits that may appear to create connection but actually put more distance between us. We will then learn the basic communication skill of Supportive Listening – listening in order to understand another person and activate our natural capacity for empathy. These skills are useful in any kind of relationship\, especially in times of conflict or tension. In 1988 he did a nine month training to become a professional mediator\, which led to his teaching communication and conflict resolution skills in schools\, colleges\, and other settings for the next 25 years. Miles taught interpersonal communication and conflict management classes regularly at the Community College of Vermont for 23 years. During that time he wrote and edited his first book\, Conscious Communication to use as a classroom text. He currently offers private intensive workshops for groups and private sessions and retreats for couples focused on communication skills. \nMiles is the author of Conscious Communication for Couples – A guide for couples\, Beyond Perception- A Guide to Meditation\, and Conscious Communication – A Language of Connection (all available on Amazon.com). He has practiced and taught Insight Meditation from the Buddhist tradition for over 40 years. And he spent 32 years developing and managing a wholistic retreat center\, organic permaculture farm\, and conscious community in Vermont. In 1987 he created a self-insurance fund for health care needs among income-sharing communities called PEACH (Preservation of Equity Accessible for Community Health) that he ran for 22 years (1987-2009)\, growing it from a dream to a loan fund with net assets over $500\,000. In addition to his expertise in community living\, he’s parlayed his passion for good process into a consulting business focused on cooperative group dynamics\, styled CANBRIDGE (Consensus And Network Building for Resolving Impasse and Developing Group Effectiveness)\, which he’s been doing since 1987. \nf \nLaird’s specialty is up-tempo inclusive meetings that engage the full range of human input\, teaching groups to work creatively with conflict and diversity—all the while being ruthless about capturing as much product as possible. As both a consultant and a teacher he pioneered a facilitation and leadership training program where students meet eight times in three-day weekends spread out over two years. Since launching that in 2003\, he’s delivered the program 14 times in locations all across the US. Crystal is the website editor for Black & Poly\, an organization promoting healthy polyamorous relationships for people of color. She also serves on the Editorial Review Board of Communities Magazine published by the Global Ecovillage Network-United States. Her book The Token: Common Sense Ideas for Increasing Diversity in Your Organization will be published in late 2020. Crystal is passionate about encouraging people to change their perspectives on diversity\, relationships\, and the world.

Through his leadership in Communitecture\, inc.\, and it’s various affiliates including the The City Repair Project (501(c)3)\, The Village Building Convergence\, and the Planet Repair Institute\, he has been instrumental in the development of dozens of participatory organizations and urban permaculture design projects across the United States and Canada. Stories of Mr. Lakeman’s projects have been told widely\, including in such publications as Dwell\, Architecture Magazine\, New Village Journal\, Yes magazine\, The Utne Reader\, Permaculture Activist and many more. With City Repair\, in 2003 Mark was awarded the National Lewis Mumford Award by the international organization Architects & Planners for Social Responsibility for his work with Dignity Village\, one of the United States’ first self-developed\, permanent communities by and for previously homeless people. \n\n
