SUMMARY:Community Land Co-Ops: Owning our future in community [Workshop]
DESCRIPTION:September 14th | 3:30-5:30pm Eastern \n\n\n\nCommunity Land Co-Ops: Owning our Future in Community\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this inspirational 2-hour workshop to explore Community Land Co-ops (CLCs) and ways to take part in a more cooperative and equitable future for community land.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHousing justice is social justice\, but most of us feel powerless to escape the system\, much less change it. From ecovillages to apartment blocks\, cooperative communities are hard pressed to establish ownership of land and buildings without resorting to conventions of property and finance that run fundamentally at odds with core values like inclusion\, equity\, and cooperation. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nArising from an intersection of social activism and intentional communities organizing\, the Community Land Co-op (CLC) is a holistic framework for community control of land that emphasizes the human relationships between residents\, investment\, and property. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAlthough this is often referred to as the “landlord owned by its tenants”\, it also includes a key membershp role for allied non-residential investors. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis workshop will introduce the complete CLC framework in broad strokes and provide examples of its implementation that are currently underway. We will also create an open space for a discussion of thevarious ins and outs and imagining our own potential futures as CLC members\, as well as a live Q&A. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this session you will gain:\n\n\n\nA broad understanding of how CLCs workAn appreciation for how the CLC is related to the CLT (Community Land Trust) and to traditional housing co-opsAn overview of how Sociocracy fits in the pictureIdeas and inspiration for the many ways to take part in a more cooperative and equitable future for community land\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Presenter\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoel Rothschild\n\n\n\nJoel (they/them) is a founding organizer of the Ecovillagers Alliance\, the primary organization in support of Community Land Co-op organizing\, and currently a member of the Philadelphia-based CLC-in-formation\, Kibbbutz Pawpaw. With a background in cooperative governance\, urban design\, and peer-to-peer systems engineering\, Joel is an affiliated project manager of CoHousing Solutions’ 500 Communities initiative\, and past founder of the Ravenna Kibbutz\, a 2000s-era ecovillage neighborhood in Seattle\, where Joel is from. Joel is also a part-time professional cantor and enjoys leading groups in decision-making\, learning\, and community bonding activities as much as providing systems support from behind the scenes. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Online Event Experience\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive Zoom Sessions\n\n\n\nNothing pre-recorded here! FIC’s programs provide a way for thinking and concerned people to collaborate for solutions to our multitude of global crises. Thank you FIC! – Terri Garcia \n\n\n\nI am constantly impressed by the down-to-earth practicality of the FIC workshops combined with the philosophical questions that are so vital for us to explore. I’m grateful for the excellent planning and delivery of the workshops by skilled and inclusive presenters\, who create a space that is both welcoming and invites participants to challenge existing ideas and world views. Well done and thank you FIC. – Claire Ogden
