Seeking a compassionate and skilled caregiver for our senior parents and for our 21 yr old niece who  who survived brain cancer in Benzie County, Michigan.

Parents are in their mid-80s, and need assistance in activities of daily living, such as, cooking meals, light cleaning activity coordination and medication management. My parents are both former teachers, have progressive politics, and enjoy conversation about books, ideas and current events.

Our niece is part of a local social worker/mental health system.  She is highly functional but her brain cancer has late effects.  She wants to be part of an organic gardening/small farm community but needs active participation from adults for organization and discipline.

The ideal caregiver has experience and/or training as a personal caregiver and is organized, patient, compassionate and has a broadminded, democratic outlook on life and world events. You will be part of a caregiving circle that includes extended home care aids, family, friends, nurses and social workers. My mother is in home hospice and my father can no longer drive, so the caregiver will have a variety of duties depending on the day.  We have a caregiver team for the most of the week who live in a cabin near my parent’s farm house.  Our caregiving team have a professional work history in sustainable forestry.  We are looking to supplement the circle.

We are looking for an individual(s) who are interested in room and board and the opportunity to help create an organic garden or small farm and be backup  for the caregiver team.  Your work hours would be on weekends, approximately 4-6 hours on Saturday and Sunday.  You would receive a small monthly stipend.  We are a progressive family and hoping to build an alternative way for our parents to live at home and our niece with a community of progressive, community minded individuals who are interested in sustainable farming and alternative community structures.  This would a great situation for a student or retiree.  We are not an official community, but we share values of protecting the land, organic gardening, creating alternatives to aging and dying.

Serious inquiries will require a resume that includes your caregiving background and references.  All applicants must be willing to have a criminal background check.  This is a drug free, smoke free environment, including marijuana.
