Liberate 23rd Avenue A long-time, low-rent community building in East Oakland could become a giant playground for big tech–or stay an affordable, people-of-color-led social justice center, with your help!

This multi-use space includes:

  • The Bikery, part of Cycles of Change, a community bike shop
  • Sustaining Ourselves Locally, a Queer & Trans People Of Color collectively-run house and community garden
  • Shaolin Life, a martial arts and self-defense studio
  • Liberating Ourselves Locally, a people of color-led maker/hacker space
  • and is home to a diverse group of low-income people of color who want to stay in their homes!

Please support this crowdfunding campaign! As of writing this, they’ve raised $62K of the $75K needed. Follow this link to find out more and make a donation.

This group is partnering with the Oakland Community Land Trust, POC Sustainable Housing Network, Sustainable Economies Law Center and Northern California Community Loan Fund, to put together the legal and financial pieces in place to keep this community intact.

We need spaces like this to exist. We need communities of empowered people working for a better future for everyone. We need the people most impacted by society’s problems to have control over the space and resources they need to help address these problems in meaningful ways for themselves and the world.
