Northwest Communities Seeking Members

The Northwest Intentional Communities Association offers no endorsement of the communities listed on this page or anywhere in any or our publications. You need to carefully check them outyourself. We do not verify any information communities provide us, we simply publish it as we get it. For more information about finding the right  community there are good articles in the Intentional Communities Directory or in Communities Magazine.

email Craig for additions or changes to your community's listing

We provide free listings for NW communities seeking new members, or who have homes for sale or spaces for rent, but they must truely be connected to intentional communities. We do not list properties that could, potentially, be turned into a community.

New Farming Co-operative seeking members

The Biodiversity Farming Co-operative is a new venture in the Okanogan
Valley (north-central Washington) Founding members are sought to help
create a worker-owned and managed, farming cooperative. Co-op members
will work together to grow a wide diversity of edible, medicinal and
useful trees, shrubs, vines, perennials and annuals. A Noah's ark of
plants. The co-op produces and markets food, medicinal plants, nursery
stock, seeds and other crops. The farming methods utilize permaculture
design and ecologically-sustainable methods. In the Spring of 2008 we
will be establishing our first planting on a 75-acre farm near Oroville,
Washington. We also need several interns.

NEW ECOVILLAGE OPPORTUNITY – AGRICULTURE BASED

Cloud View Ecofarm is looking for long-term members as well as people
who would like to dedicate the full 2008 growing season to developing
the ecofarm. Needed are people who want to get their hands in the soil.
Young people with children are welcome. Short-term stays by hard-working
folks are also possible. The long term goal is to become an ecovillage
because we already have a big enough land base to support one.

Cloud View Ecofarm lies in the Frenchman Hills of the Columbia Basin,
ten miles off I-90 between George and Moses Lakes. Cloud View Ecofarm
has 270 acres at its primary site including 150 irrigated acres of which
30 acres are in Gala apples and 120 acres are in field crops.  Community
members and local people will gradually change the acreage over to
small-scale, intensive farming (organic, permaculture). The
non-irrigated 120 acres is native sagebrush steppe and some previously
farmed fields which need native plant restoration. 2007 was the first
year of people living on the site. Most of them camping on site and
creating outdoor living spaces. About 50 people helped on the site in
2007. A large straw-bale community center will be built in 2008.

Clearwater Commons in Bothell, WA seeking members

We have eight homes remaining at the Clearwater Commons community forming in
Bothell, WA. We are intergenerational, ranging from small children to
grandparents. Members share an intention of living a lifestyle that sustains
a balance between individual and community needs and the natural ecosystem.

The Clearwater Commons LLC began in June 2006 when a group of families
purchased a 7.4 acre site on North Creek, 11 miles north of Seattle’s city
limits. The site includes wetlands, forest, garden space, and salmon stream.
We plan to break ground on the site development for our low-impact design of
16 residences plus a common house in the spring of 2008. We have a mix of
three-bedroom townhomes and single family homes. Eight of the households
have already been spoken for.

We take on a responsibility to act as stewards of our land—restoring and
enhancing the natural environment including the stream, wetlands, habitat
and wildlife. We wish to create a place we enjoy coming home to.

The inspiration for this community grew from founding members' involvement
in The Clearwater School located across the street. Our shared experience
with the school encourages us to allow the structures for community
meetings, gatherings, and events to evolve through our daily interactions.

We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have, arrange a time to meet
or give a tour of the land. We welcome anyone interested in sharing this
journey with us.

You can visit our website at www.clearwatercommons.com
Send us an email at: commons@clearwatercommons.com

SHE FARM GOES COOP  -- RENT TO OWN COOPERATIVELY

She Farm is triple lot in the Rainier Valley, the most diverse area in Seattle owned by one woman with a vision of shared ownership.

It has 3 buildings: One sweet residence, a ramshackle barn with a new roof and doors, and a small recently built and beloved retreat and guest house. The land is a treasure with canopy trees, fruit trees, berries, flowers, and work- in-progress vegetable and herb gardens. Except for the nearby construction, It seems like a country home

Now we are two queer women sharing the vision and needing more to help transform She Farm from  individual to Cooperative Ownership.  .We have a fabulous place and  we are building the  co-op from scratch.  Which means that you/we would   be founding members, involved in the adoption of policies and structuring the community to suit.

We have the resource to move forward on this project.   We need more women with enthusiasm for community living, gardening and cottage industry. We need women with skill in financial and legal matters and/ or with time and willingness to learn these skills and put them to use with excellent guidance.

We also need more funds to maintain/repair the buildings and land, and create more living space. We need women to buy in  and Co-own !

Email for our current  Vision Statement.

SEEING IS BELIEVING -- SPACE IS AVAILABLE  BY JULY 1.

    Bartimaeus Cohousing at Meadow Wood
    Bremerton, WA / (206) 780-3840

We’re the latest addition to the cohousing scene in the Puget Sound area, and are looking for new members for our four remaining units. Construction is nearly done on our 7-acre wooded site, with adjoining protected wetlands. Several families have already moved in, and we’d love to have you join us!

    Newberry House
    Portland OR 503-286-3700

Fledgling community on seven acres, 20 minutes from the center of Portland is looking for new residents/land mates.

This "simplified co-housing" -- a little simpler, a little less middle class looking, a little more rural, a little more queer, a little more alternative thinking & feeling...

Personal space includes a large room detached from the main house.  The main house is mostly common space, and there is seven acres of land that's mostly forest, with some open garden and orchard..

Location:  at the NW edge of Portland, off Hwy 30 past Linnton (before Sauvie Island).  Near the north entrance to Forest Park, fairly close to St. Johns, NW Portland, and PCC Rock Creek.

The Household.  This is a new household.  I've owned the property for over a year, renovating, clearing out and building, and not it's time for other people to come live here.  This is a cooperative household, into sustainability, living simply on the land, shared organic food and some shared cooking/meals, shared care of the place.

There is also the potential for building a small structure, and becoming a co-owner of the land.

Who's here now.  I'm Carl, 46, gay guy, kinda alternative.  There is also 1 cat, 2 sheep.

If you're looking for a place with a combination of shared living and privacy, a rural feel with land but close to the center of Portland (20 minutes) an emphasis on simple sustainable living, and where you can hear the bird, and see the stars, drop me a note.

You will find a lot more infrmation at:   http://homepage.mac.com/carlvz/newberryhouse/

Suite or Wing in La Tierra Community Available

This is to announce that a wing or a suite, however you want to call it, is available in our big (3000 sq ') beautiful house at La Tierra Community in Sebastopol, CA on November 1st.

The space has 2 nice size bedrooms with hardwood floors, very large closets, a private bathroom with a tub/shower and a small entry hallway that separates the rooms from the living room.  The newly remodeled kitchen, greenhouse in the making, dining room, and living room, (with efficient fireplace insert) are shared spaces.  The house has a lot of space and privacy.

Ideally we are looking for a couple or one person who wants 2 rooms, desires to live in community, and is interested in healthy, ecological living.

La Tierra is a co-housing style community located on 15 acres of land 2 miles West of downtown Sebastopol (a bike ride away). We are 18 people. We formed in 1989 and have been successfully thriving for 16 years now.

We rotate who cooks dinner Monday through Thursday evenings, which means cooking once a month for the community and being cooked for the rest of the month!

We have extensive flower, berry and vegetable gardens, a large orchard, bees, 24 chickens, vermiculture, swimming pool, barn/workshop space, wood working shop, hot tub, laundry room, DSL, biodiesel, shared tools and resources, 60% of the community's utilities are Solar powered,  etc.

The rooms have been renting for $550 but the whole space goes for $1000. For the right person or persons, there might be some flex on the rent if it is a hardship.

We really appreciate gardeners who are interested in growing food and beauty and people interested in healthy, sustainable living.

    Sorry, no dogs.

Please email    godyard@earthlink.net    for more information or call 829-0171 and speak to Nancy  (mailbox 1.)
